I looked at a ka-bar 1211 yesterday. I had been checking them out online and decided I needed to feel it in my hand. It is a sweet knife that just makes me feel bad ass lol. I have no immediate use for this knife and it will probably just sit in my car for months before I get a use for it. So im just sort of debating on if i should get it or not... ok well... i will probably get it... im just trying to make myself feel less guilty about spending the money. I know $60 isn't a ton to spend when you compare it to other knives out there but still... I guess the knife is going to be sort of a present to myself saying congratulations on getting a job lol.

If you didn't steal it then don't feel guilty! The reason you purchased it is a perfect one. Enjoy!;)

Allow me to demonstrate something for you. I am going to take your post and change a few words to make it my own:

I looked at a practically every knife I own. I had been checking them out online and decided I needed to feel it in my hand. It is a sweet knife that just makes me feel happy lol. I have no immediate use for this knife and it will probably just sit in my top drawer for months before I get a use for it. So im just sort of debating on if i should get it or not... ok well... i will probably get it... im just trying to make myself feel less guilty about spending the money. I know $variable depending on which knife I choose to discuss isn't a ton to spend (relative to a few other purchases I have made) when you compare it to other knives out there but still... I guess the knife is going to be sort of a present to myself saying congratulations on (whatever accomplishment I deem appropriate) lol.

I think you are in good company here. Sometimes you just feel like indulging yourself with something nice. I see no harm in that so long as you are not harming anyone else.

Have a nice day.

Wanting is reason enough.

Fulfilling a real actual need is good and satisfying, but hey let's face it, most of us here are getting nice sharps because it's a hobby. We don't need most of the knives we have. We can instead want them quite badly.

It's ok to enjoy a few things in life. :)

"Because I want one" or "because I can buy one" are perfectly acceptable reasons to get one.

Welcome to BF. I have several knives that I wish I hadnt bought. It might

make more sense to buy a knife you can use now thou.

I have all the knives I'll ever need for a lifetime yet it never fails I get the itch for a new one at least once a year---welcome to the club.

buying a knife because you want it is the best reason for making the purchase. you can buy a knife because you need it, but if you don't also enjoy using it it's a bad purchase.

I don't know m8,

"I want it" is a good reason I agree 100% the biggest problem with those knives is the fact that they don't get carried, but you still like them. And that makes at least me feel kinda bad. I have couple of knives like that I will fondle them then put on a shelf and think man, maybe I should just take a $100 loss and trade all of them for one sebenza or a strider. I have couple of ZT's, Benchmade, 5.11folders that don't get carried at all. And it makes me feel like such a waste when there are soooo many other knives out there I want to try.

Why do you think I, of all people, have a ZT 0500 on order? I go camping once, maybe twice a year, and that's the extent of my hard-use knife need. I don't need something that beefy, and the sealed pivot and lock are unnecessary. Heck, for what I actually use a knife for, I'd be best off being like the customers at my work and picking up a low-end Buck or *shudder* Schrade.

But I'm NOT like them. I WANT top of the line. I WANT form AND function. I want high end steels, solid handles, hair-popping edges, flawless lockups, fit and finish to die for. I don't NEED perfection, but I WANT it very, very badly.

So yes, "I want it" is a perfect reason to buy a knife. After the first one, it's probably the only real reason anyway.

All of my knives are presents to myself...for ...nothing. I never make excuses ..see it want it buy it. If something came up that was present worthy I would buy 2 knives!

i was given the gift of being able to rationalize anything; i mean anything. its a gift, really is. but no matter what bs you sling or reasons you have, the basis of anything you're ever going to buy is that you want it

you might want it because of a legitimate reason, but be honest with yourself. you just want it lol

which is just fine :D no better reason imo

Been there with almost the very same knife. Ended up buying it, not using it much, then selling it.

Then I bought another

It's a sickness, boy-o ;).

Hey there's a recession on, buying stuff helps everyone out, at least that's what I keep telling myself...
