No record of PM's sent or responded too

I have sent a few PM's and responded to a few PM's but once they are sent I have no record of them when I click the "List Messages" link in the User CP and then look in the "Sent Items" folder. Nothing shows up in the "Sent Items" folder. Further, when I respond to a PM from another member, my response does not show up in the response thread when I look at the actual message. The icon shows that I responded to the message (by showing the arrow on the envelope) like it should but my actual response that I typed does not show. I can't follow any of my responses because I have no record of them. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I have one response in the "Sent Items" folder that has been there for some time, so I know that it did work in the past, but no new responses are being added since that one. As such, I have no way of knowing if a message I respond too is being received or recorded. I want to know that my messages are being sent properly and that they are being received. I hope someone can help me understand this part of the personal message system. Thank you... Kully

Go to User CP.
Go to Edit Options.
Page down to Messaging & Notification.
Page down to Private Messaging, where the final choice is:

When sending private messages the forum can make a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.
Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default
