As in upper-case letter "o" followed by the number "1".

Search function tells me O1 is not a word/not long enough.

When I search "O1 steel" I only get results with the word "steel" but nothing with "O1".

I just want to know if O1 is good for knives and what kind of knives.

O1 is excellent for knives, and is very commonly used by many makers. But it is only as good as it's heat treat.

Heat treatment and edge geometry, if you want it to cut. Yes...excellent steel.
If you are new to the game and plan to do your own heat treatment, start with something simple like 1084. Get the basics mastered with it before you go to O1. O1 is a good bit more tricky to heat treat than most beginners can handle (to get it right).

Try 01 as all numerical. Worked for me. As far as HTing 01, it is pretty simple, but decarb protection is needed, and temp control is a must.

I think the OP was using the search function on this forum which I have also found to SUCK. It is easier to use google and tack blade forum to your search.

O-1 is one of my favorites to work with, mainly because it comes to me precision ground, and I can get a really good edge on it. It is a little light on corrosion resistance, but if yo give your blades the proper care and maintenance there is no problem with that. Right now mt only concern with O-1 is that the last piece I got had some ugly alloy banding in it. I didn't see it before HT, don't know if you could, but after HT it just jumped out and I have been having to fo to a satin finish to hide it instead of the mirror finish I planned on. I get my blades HT'd by a reputable HTer so I know that the problems I am having with this piece are not his fault.

In the end O-1 makes a really nice blade steel, and I think that if you are sending it out for HT it is one of the better ones for a beginner because of the fact it normally comes precision ground so you get a nice flat piece of steel to work with. You may have to work out a bit of warp due to shipping though.

+1 on using PG O-1 as a starting out knife steel. It is especially great since the average person wouldn't have a surface grinder kicking around to knock of scale and square up normal stock.

Yeah. I didn't realize there was a way to use Google specifically for bladeforums.com. I will have to learn how to do that.
