No rhyme or reason to it for me!

(This was actually supposed to be a reply to the thread about "Costing a new knife" but somehow it got started as a new thread)

A repeating pattern exists with me...

I become aware of a new model, either through photos here or by browsing my local stores shelves. Then, the infatuation & attendant obsession begins where I read everything I can find on it and begin justifying whatever the price happens to be. Eventually, I have the money, but the knife, use it for awhile then watch as inevitably the process begins anew.

I'm not joking.

I've got the same syndrome. Only not with just knives...but guitars and amps (hell of a lot more $$ than knives), cigars, computer parts, books, chess sets and chess computers... Too many toys! At least its better than pissing money away on drugs.

What's wrong with drugs? I used to have a Peavey Triumph (60W combo, clear channel, tube channel, tube + mosfet channel that scorched everything), but now I'm on loratine and psuedoephedrine. My sinuses feel much better than when I used to drink Tabasco and try to figure out songs from "Reign In Blood". Plus, my stash of Walitin-D takes up less space and I use a headphone amp for when I have to have crunch.

edited for spelling

I know exactly what you mean, Jeff. I've been feeling/thinking that way about the ATR.....guess that I'll have to pass on a hint to my wife....wedding anniversary is coming up. ;)

The ATR is excellent. The design and construction are top-notch. It stands proudly in the pantheon of overbuilt folders.

I did the same with a PA system recently that was supposed to be "one small, good sounding amp for vocals and acoustic guitar reinforcement". It ended up being a Peavey 10 channel (8+tape) stereo powered head w/ 200x2Watt's built in (& bridgeable to 420W), three mics - SM58 and Sennheisers, stands, 2 - RAMSA WA-200's, 2 - RAMSA WA-80's, a WSA-200 subwoofer, ADCOM GFA-1 2x200 stereo power amp...you get the idea.

But what fun! Everybody wants me to bring my system out to their place when they have an acreage yard party, and that sort of thing. And I do!
