I have a Schrade USA 881 and the main blade has no snap. The other 2 have good snap. Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to repair? Thanks for your help.

You can try some light oil on the joint, that seems to help sometimes it depends it could just be worn out. It's hard to say without seeing it but if it has been banged around alot, dents in the back of the brass liner can bind on the spring, that can be a little harder to fix. Rick

I would agree with Rick. A picture would help some, but it sounds like it is worn/tired, especially if it was the blade of choice for most duties. If it hasn't been used, then a poor heat treat may be the likely cause. Not much cost effectively you can do to "repair" it, without replacement work. If it has sentimental value, you may find an embellisher, or skilled repairman...but it would cost much more than the knife is worth, under normal circumstances...JMO.

I agree with Rick and Bill. However you could try putting a large dab of gun oil inside the liners and working the blade back and forth vigorously several times. If alot of dirty oil and grime escape to the outside of the spring, you might have a fighting chance. Wipe it away and repeat untill blade has some snap. Access to compressed air might aid in this process also. Good luck,it has worked for me before. Matthew

Thanks for the info. I have done the oil and compressed air to blow out any dirt. I failed to mention the blade is also loose so its probably the spring. I guess I'll just live with it.

Depending on how bad it is and how much you plan on using it; I would take it apart and carefully put some more tension in the spring and put it back together.

That would at least eliminate the wobble in the blade, (if you put it together right) even if it doesn't add tension to the spring.

Just a thought,
Dale
