Many years ago I purchased a single bit axe, new at a hardware store for camping, and ended up not using it. I pulled it out the other day, as I decided to back up my chainsaw on my 4X4 for road blocking blow downs. I wanted to clean it up, didn't need much I had kept it oiled in storage for over 30 years. I realized after looking on internet, there are few American made axes anymore, so I took a little more interest in it. I took the 3/4 red paint off the head with some MEK, and polished it with emery. The strange thing is, midway on the handle in white paint is the "Stilletto" name, but there is no stamp of any kind on the head??? The handle also showed a inked price stamp...$ 9.95 it looks like...

Has anyone seen an original Stilletto like this without a trademark on the head??

I only have 2 Stilettos and both came without handles and with stamps on the heads. You bought this new so you know it is a Stiletto. But if it was a later model perhaps is was produced by another maker for Stiletto.

Well blade is hard, taking some time to sharpen with a Lanski stone.. Do you know if Kelly was making these for them back then??

I've seen a few Stilettos with a Kelly stamp on the back. But most of the ones I've are just stamped Stiletto. I don't know who the maker is.

I have one like that. Still has the original handle, which is marked stiletto, but the head has nothing. Seems like it kind of jives with the beginning of corner cutting and loss of pride in quality by manufacturers. Too expensive to stamp all the heads when you can just paint it on the handle.

White paint "Stiletto" midway on handle, no stamp on head on either side.
