First let me give you the background leading up to the bloodshed.... Two days ago, my boss was giving an estimate on some plumbing work for a lady. This required crawling around under her house, and into her below ground well house. As he was getting ready to play tunnel rat, she said something about seeing a snake go under the house the day before. Now, not knowing my boss..... the guy is about as tough as they come..... except when "snake" is mentioned! He politely told the lady she was short a few cards for a deck if she thought he was going under there with a snake........ then proceeded to tell her he had someone in mind that was stupid enough to do it and enjoy it at the same time as long as she let him keep the snake after he was done! She decided this was an acceptable offer and the next day I was brought over to play exterminator.......

I show up with three things in hand...... My NO, a three foot piece of 1/2 inch pvc pipe, and a flashlight.......

Under the house I go...... fifteen feet in, I came upon said snake. Three feet of seriously annoyed diamondback, and I seemed to be the object of his bad mood!( relax..... I wasn't the one that bled! ) I pinned his head with the pipe, grabbed him up and crawled out of the hole. The lady ran for the house and my boss climbed in his truck and rolled up the windows while locking the door and yelling something about my last paycheck would be friday...... So I ever so gently unsheathed my NO, and proceeded to remove the dangerous end of said snake from the not so dangerous end. I felt this was a great way to break in my new blade and the skin will make a nice hat band after I'm done frying up the rest of the tasty morsel:D .... needless to say, I talked my way out of the unemployment line by simply asking my boos who would go in and get the other snake I saw under the house..... ( 12 inch long king snake ;) ) He just made me promise to kill it before I brought it out:cool:

Jerry..... Thanks for the awsome modifications you did to my stock NO...... As soon as I get some pics, I'll see if Eric will help me get them posted.

NO Varient specs.....

Six inch clip point blade with a very slightly harpooned false edge, double cut finish with matching handle grommets set in the standard black canvas micarta NO handle slabs, and a birds beak skull crusher.

Don't even think about it Eric! :p :D

Hope you enjoyed this little tale of adventure..... I sure did!

Great story JJ. If the skins are big enough, you might want to have someone make some inlays for a nice leather sheath to go with that NO variant!

Cool man!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

That sheath inlay idea is a pretty cool idea as well. We have some great leather crafters amongst us. That would make an awesome sheath!

Very Cool Story, I'll be happy to help post the pics just let me know. And I'll do it for only a small fee of one NO variant ;):p

I saw a little black snake today. It lives in our woodpile and has a stripe on it. It's about 14 inches long. That's all the detail I could get as I ran away screaming. :o Could I get a sheath made out of that? Would it be OK to have shotgun pellet holes in it, because that's the only way my chicken butt is going to be able to get it. :o :D

Alpha you didn't run from that little old thing did you? The last one of those I saw came up from the river bottoms and was about six foot long. Cut it's little head off with a shovel and tossed it right in a bon fire we had going. I Should have skinned it, then you would have had enough for a sheath with that one. :D

Alpha,
I probably shouldn't mention that my 3 yr old daughter has a Cal. Mtn. Kingsnake living in her room as a pet, should I !!?? ;)

I AM trading snakes for Busses lately, I am sure I have something we could work a trade on to get you over this little hesitation to embrace our legless brothers... :) Always here to help.
Later,
Bill

I wasn't really afraid of it. I just didn't want to frighten it and make it feel inferior. That's why I ran, I was helping the snake get a higher self- esteem.

Alpha...??? I will get my daughter to tame one for you... Although I do admire your chivalry in the face of Gods creature.

This is probably going to surprise you, but I am really just afraid of "wild" snakes. They just startle me so bad when I come across one that my girly nature takes over before I can control it.

We used to have a short tailed or "blood" python. That was one beautiful snake. It was just a baby, about 20 inches or so, when we left it at home for the Christmas holidays. It's heating pad had a malfuction and when we came home it was dead:( I used to wipe it's eye scales with a wet q-tip while it was shedding. It always had trouble with it's head. We never have had any other snakes. Might get one in the future, when we can really make it a nice habitat. What kind of snakes do you deal with?

Alpha,
FINALLY a subject I know something about !! LOL!! Bloods are usually pretty nippy, I have always stuck with Colubrids- mostly SW USA. MY all time favorites for pets are L.P. Knoblocki- a subspecies of Arizona Mtn Kingsnake, they are drop dead gorgeous and VERY calm and tame. From there, any kingsnake NOT in Getula family(Eastern king, Arizona or desert king, california king). Right now I am down to an adult pair of het Mexican Kings, one albino mex king, one Alterna(gray banded king) and the Cal Mtn King my daughter just claimed. + about 15 Leopard Geckos... If you get serious about a snake, let me know and I can hook you up with some very good breeders.
One thing I always do is buy from breeders/ not pet shops.

Cool! It will have to wait 'til I am out of school, but I will give you a call. Our Blood was very calm, although I understood that to not be the norm. Maybe because we got it when it was so young.(at a pet store:o :barf: ) Learned not to do that anymore. I really liked it because it was a slow one. I handled a corn snake and what they said was a Calif. king, but they just moved so fast. I was a lot younger back then. My wife was a freshman in school. Seems like forever ago:( They were trying to sell us a Burmese (sp?) python and it bit the owner when she reached for it. Needless to say, I left that one alone. We went back after having it a few weeks and the pet shop was gone! We did find a good vet that helped us a lot, but I think the climate is too cold here in the winter to not have a really good setup. We have imagined something like a 6 foot deep glass or plexi enclosure that runs to the ceiling. Maybe 15 or 20 feet wide. When we build a house we are going to have a room (hopefully) for it. My wife also wants a turtle garden outside. That's why I am going back to school. Gotta make more money to have a place like we want. We'll get there, hopefully while we are young enough to enjoy it.:)

I can host the pics for you if you need me too.:) I still have a 1.5 megs of space left on the ol' account

Thanks guys, glad you liked it.... and thanks to those of you willing to help me post the pics... as soon as I get them taken and developed...( no digi cam here:( ) I'll get in touch with you.... wish I had taken some pics while it was still unused, but there's still hardly a scratch on it..... all the blemishes right now are from the kydex insert on my standard sheath...... it will be much loved in the very near future though:D ... I love breaking in a new blade!

Take care,

Jay
