No VG-10 for the Cricket?

Hi,

Does anyone know why most of the previous ATS-55 models went to VG-10, but not others? When I heard that things were changing for the Delica, Endura, Police... I understood that it was because ATS-55 had been discontinued, and VG-10 was to "replace" it. I was surprised then, to see that some models in the new 2002 PDR that are still available in ATS-55.

Perhaps these models have ATS-55 blades made up already in good quantities...does anybody know the scoop?

ATS-55 was a proprietary steel, so Spyderco had to buy a lot of it from Hitachi in order to have it made. Spyderco has already used up its stores of thick ATS-55 blade stock so most ATS-55 knives have already switched to VG-10.

But enough of the thin ATS-55 stock remains to make Crickets, SS Dragonflies, and Dyad Jrs for several months yet. They too will make the switch down the road aways.

Carlos,

That makes perfect sense. I wondered if it was something like that; having stock of material for one but not the other.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have been considering buying one of these, and now I have a little more information upon which to base my decision. I may decide to wait awhile, until the VG-10 models appear...or maybe not.

Thanks, Jeff/1911.
