Guys,

I was reading on some other forums...

Weird political stuff...I guess it was from folks in our country..I guess you cal them liberal...and sounded like mostly Democrats...

They were using terms like Freepers...and Neocons...and talking in pretty angry terms about impeaching President Bush...taking over the govenrment...

BUt also they were extremely militant....

Which in my heart I read as "afraid".

One person was talking aobut having an altercation at a gun range of all places? Not where one would choose to get into a heated political debate.

Anyway...to be honest it scared the poop out of me...that folks...could see things so differently...and yet be so quick to speak of hurting other country men...or killing ot protect what they think is right.

FOr years my step dad talked about the RUssians coming...going to take it all away...

BUt it never happened...nowadays...seems like the real war is happening in the financial battle grounds...

And the real threat to our country is domestic. I think the FBI lists the environmentalists on top of the threat list...even before Osama....

One thing I learned this past...I don't have any wish to hurt anyone. But I don't want for me and mine to be hurt either.

But where do you draw the line?

SHane

I don't have many answers for you Shane. But I think you hit it on the head when you said "afraid". Fear is the reason people turn away from their true natures and hurt others.

A great man I know says "see God and Love in every man walking down the street, but don't turn your back on him" A truly hard line to walk to be sure.

On one side you are keeping your own heart safe by seeing the love that really is inside people, and thereby not hardening your heart--figuratively and literally!

on the other side you are doing what you need to do to prevent people who are dangerous from hurting you.

All I know is that I refuse to take inside of myself the fear and poison that is so common in society. If I refuse to make it a part of me it cannot do its dirty work on me.

Those people are scary, but if we let them make us "afraid" then we too will end up hurting others. Probably ourselves too in the process.

I know what you mean, Shane. Politics is hell, especially when you live in a crazy time such as now. There is a difference between being fed up with the policies of a particular administration and trying to over throw the government. Personally, I'll be glad for '08 to get here. Not because i really care all that much about Bush leaving, as it will give everyone a fair playing field again. Then we can have another 4-8 of half the population gutter sniping each other, but at least for that brief time no one will have the room to piss and moan about how down trodden they are. Honestly, the same things happened on the right when Clinton and the dems had sway over most everything. Those were easier times where the biggest no-no the prez did was have an affair out of wedlock (GASP! that is a shocker! the most powerful man in the world having a honey on the side?;)). Times are more extreme now. America cannot just flex its muscles all cold war-like. Action was taken because it needed to be. The ball was dropped, fumbled, slam dunked, spiked, whiffed, knocked out of the park and converted. No side has it right and blaming and glorifying will not get us any closer to what needs to be done. All it does is make America a real pissy squably place to live.
I guess this is a long winded answer to say that I think these people are reactionaries. Times are extreme, people are extreme, and they will say (and maybe do) things to get control over a situation that is scary and makes them feel helpless. Everyone wants it like the good ol' days before terror made it to the foreground, our enemies wore uniforms, and Presidential action did not push the world to or away from a melt down of biblical proportions. Time will pass, things will get done, things will get messed up, things will get fixed, terrorism will fall from the foreground, new threats will conjure, new threats will be defeated, today's enemies will be tomorrow's friends, and today's friends might want to kill us tomorrow.
Personally, i'm scared to death of the radical left/right/muslim/Christian/zombies/aliens/whatever. Things will work out. They always do, it just might take blood, sweat, tears, heartbreak, and joyous cheers before the dust settles.

The sad part is, that the hate talk poisons the minds, the everyday culture of human interaction.
It could be one of the many reasons a weak-minded person burns out at the end and starts shooting. Not that those guys listen specificly to political shows or read such forums, but the media in general seems very attracted to report or even perform hate speach and blame game.

I might be very much wrong about this, but I don't like hate talk.

It's the anger that gives it away as desperation. Sure, we are all of us desperate, these are daunting times, Western Civ could fall. There is a rush to judgement- to define- that men do, and therefore parties do, and therefore politicians do- and we need to be careful and keep the relevant data in order to make good decisions.

BAck in the day...I could not have cared less about all this stuff...

It was me against everybody...and I was still bulletproof.....immortal.

Only now I got little ones...to keep safe..and watch over.

And for the most part I was unaware that there are folks acting like this...

They seem just as unreasonable and irrational as the folks setting IED's in other parts of the world.

MAkes no sense to me...

I took the Oath of Office years ago...when I was employed by the DOD overeseas....

It really hit home....and I have tried to act as a responsible citizen and abide by that oath even though I am no longer employed by Uncle Sam....

I worry...

I hear guys talking about SHTF scenarios...and they speak off the cuff about shooting anybody who threatens them...most recently in NO...when there was talk of Police confiscation of firearms...

Would anybody really shoot the police? Is anybody ready for that?

THen we see the police actively committing felonies..while in uniform?

Crazy world...and fear seems to be the trigger for everything?

I jus don't know...

BUt this is the only place I feel at all comfortable talking about it...

I realize now there is a lot that should not be said on the Net...opinions that should never be discussed openly...and have said as much on other occasions....

I prolly should have hidden behind a persona and stayed in the shadows...but that's not really my style.

Shane

No, that's not your style; you smell crunchy.

I've asked myself this a thousand times. There is a time to stand and a time to not. This forum and the internet hopefully are becoming 'the one they never figured'; because borderless friends and communication might save the world.

Before I recieved my commission in the Air Force we went over Domestic Terrorism in my ROTC class. You would be astonished at all the home grown crazies we have and what they are capable of doing. At one end you have the ultra-conservatives and at the other the ultra-librals.

The thing that always blew my mind is how both groups are against "the establishment" and not each other.

Both cliques arn't my cup of tea. I have a hard time buying into anyone's crazy talk but my own. ;) I mean who would want to spike a 10,000 year old tree when I can try out my GRS on it and afterwards use it to make handles... you wanna talk burls after that period of time?!?

I'm usually pretty leery of folks at any extreme.

Except love. I don't reckon you can love too much, except maybe your own life.

John

I'm with John on this one. Extremists are dangerous, even if they share my political beliefs. Especially if they share my political beliefs.

It's worse in the gun culture, I believe. I'm all for private ownership of firearms/no registration/more rights/yadda yadda yadda but some of these folks are...well...nuts. They don't understand that their attitudes do more harm than good, and many of them don't appreciate having others explain this to them. (Now that I think about it, I suppose that some of the people that I know probably think the same of me.)

Some people aren't happy unless the news is bad. I avoid the ones that I know.

As a life member of one of the smallest free nations on this planet.

I must say I am heartened by the tone of this thread:D

Most of you, are representative of the most powerful nation on earth. We are on the same page

To me, this is big stuff & in some cases, unexpected.

All the best -

Shane, I can clearly see where you're coming from.

Anyway...to be honest it scared the poop out of me...that folks...could see things so differently...and yet be so quick to speak of hurting other country men...or killing ot protect what they think is right.

It just seems the same to me. But I have been called a liberal. It just looks the same from this political side. Maybe even worse to me, since for one weapon related forums are often rather conservative, for two it seems that liking [and wanting to keep] weapons is not possible for liberals, and last but not least if you criticize politics these days you are a traitor and, in times of war, traitors deserve to be shot.

See, it's all the same, just from a different point of view. Scary.

honestly, Ive never met the extremists that the newspapers and TV describe.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to believe what the TV says about other people or another country.
Our news services have all chosen sides and make every effort to exaggerate whatever news they can find, all of this to sell...

I had daily encounters with them. I honestly believe that if they had the ability to kill republican symbols and could get away with it, they would. I really believe it--they certainly talked about it all the time.

Guys,

The stuff I was reading came from the Democratic Underground...

For all you folks out there....living around the globe...Americans aren't as arrogant as we are portrayed...but the image sells...so it is perpetuated...

Come and visit...but stay off either coast...them folks is nuts!

Travel somewhere in the middle...where you can order Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy for breakfast...then you get an idea of the heart of our country...

It is a crazy world...

Fear is the motivator for so much of what we do....

TOo bad really....
