Natural Outlaw ASH Hybrid...

I was getting ready to box up Paddling_man's passaround knives, and was also reading Solstice's thread about the same time today, when the beginning's of an idea started to form... Obviously many here love the SFNO, me included, and many also like the ASH-1. Even after handling PM's SFNO, I really still think that I prefer the ASH-1 handle configuration over the SFNO's. I really like the ASH-1 as is, and I like the SFNO as is... But I still wondered what would happen if I were to dip the chocolate in the peanut butter...:confused: ...So this thread is to find out what it would "taste" like... There's a few things I would like to see, but I had a bit of trouble creating chops of these... I'd like to see the blade canted forward a bit from the Ricasso (Am I using accurate terminology on this? Maybe I should say that I'd like to see the handle angled down a degree or 2...), maybe a degree and a half to 2 degrees... Nothing major, like a Sibert Particle Accelerator (Although that IS a cool design!) for example, but just a bit. I screwed that chop up badly and gave up on it... I'd also like a saber grind on it, like the 1st Gen SFNO's...

Here's a SFNO and an ASH-1 side by side:

And here's a chop with the ASH-1 handle on a SFNO blade... with very minor variations to the Talon hole & Pommel:

Here's the same pic as the first with the Hybrid added, and the blade extended just a TINY bit (crappy chop)... Mebbe a half inch or less in real length:

Ok... Now before y'all say, "Hey Jaxx, ya mo... Whadduya think a FSH is??", I considered that, and it's close too... but has a longer blade that seems to be a tad wider than a SFNO. I wouldn't want the blade that long, but maybe a third of the difference between the 2, if even any extra length at all. Here's a pic of the SFNO on top of my FSH:

So... or :thumbdn: ??? Whatcha think? More importantly... Does this spark any other ideas with y'all? :) ...Can anyone with more experience with photo chopping than me (which means MOST of ya! LOL) maybe give a shot at doing a better version of this for me with the slight handle or blade angle and the saber grind added in? TIA if ya can.

Thanks for lookin'!

I like it! It's starting to look a bit like a BBSHSH - not that there is anything wrong with that!

I like it. So.....

I'll Take It!

Excellent idea Jaxx. But it's gotta be a "Fat Bastard" for me. ;)

Is CG ASH-1 thickness thick enough??? ... But with a penetrator tip to keep it stabby and blade-heavy... yeah, I can see that!

Yes... I guess it does a bit! ...But not quite. The bottom one may be a bit closer, but NO COATING! LOL :D
EDITED to add: ...Oops, the bottom one is the one ya meant, yes? LOL

Very interesting concept!

However...

:p:p:p

What R U talking about??? I got 27 of 'em right HERE!!!!! :p ...LOL, of course it's a chop. ;) :D:D

2 blade designs I can get excited about in one night, WOW.
I could go for a NOAH.

The best of both worlds??? Jaxx my brother, you're starting to let your imagination get the best of you!:p

And I'm liking it!!!!:D

Jaxx, that looks great! Can you show me a nice clip point with a swedge on it?

Tim's most likely already grinding one as we speak. :D

Interesting idea for yet another variant. I'd like to see the ASH-1 handle on the saber ground SFNO as well. The (KC) flat grind is nice but Jaxx said something about keeping it blade heavy, I assume to improve chopping ability, and the saber grind would help that. Of course, making it CG ASH thick would help too. Pete

I am glad you did this because now I like my ASH-1's even more!:D:thumbup:

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea and would probably take a couple like the rest, and I don't have a CG SFNO to really compare either.

I have a fancy boy SFNO( as I have seen stated) with a clip point that I love, but the 6" size of the ASH-1 is just more user friendly.

Easier to maneuver and carry. I think in a few years it may be regarded as one of the Best.

THere is really not a lot of difference though. I like the ASH handle better as you stated. Standard or reverse grip it seems like an extension of my hand, and would't dislodge from grip as easy as SFNO-IMHO.

I for one will rest a little better now, and not worry so much about the SFNO.

I know for a fact. I would just go buy two more ASH-1's over an SFNO anyday. Well, unless they were same price.

Oh, and from working in print......I thought your shop was pretty damn good.

Here's your fancy boy. see below. wouldnt use it if you paid me.

The blade Might ..............break.......... or worse ............ cry!

Yeah... I should have been more clear. (Hmmm... so my wife tells me frequently. Manspeak, she sometimes calls it. :D) The bottom one. BBSHSHII may be the correct litany of characters.

I linked it off Greg's site. With the INFI blackhole Ducci's got, I'm betting it came from him? :D

I dunno...I'm really impressed with the CG ASH1, heckuva lot in a short, agile package...can't wait to have the LE in my hand...but that NOAH would probably find a place in my user rotation without too much trouble.

Interesting post, nice combination of the 2 knives and plenty of room for a little user/owner specific customizing on the NOAH. Could be that the child becomes more of a legend than it's parents?
Seems that the range of Busse knives keeps growing and getting more thorough? Seems to me the gaps between the different styles are closing allowing owners to get the exact combinations of thickness, length, handle config and depth that they want and then Jerry throws in something like the Bussmuk to start a whole new direction of style.
Nice work on the NOAH Jaxx
