NOFB14 Norton Fine India Bench

I use the same stone, and I use water. I'm afraid that using oil will burnish the stone.
 
It's an oil stone. Use oil...a light machine or mineral oil. Who cares if the stone gets discolored? It's a sharpening stone, not marble. :rolleyes:
 
i use WD40 on my norton stone, and it works great, water works ok too, not as good as the WD' though..........

India stones are not waterstones and should be used with oil. Honing oil is quite inexpensive and a bottle should last a long time.
