Hi I live in the middle of a town and was wondering if I could set up a forge in my shed. Do U guys recon I would get noise complaints about the hammering on anvil and grinding ?

Do folks in your neighborhood complain about people using lawnmowers and leaf blowers? Probably only if someone decides to do yardwork at, say, midnight.
You're probably OK if you do your forging during what most communities consider the acceptable hours to make noise, something like 8am- 9pm. I'd look up the noise ordinance in your area to see what the laws are.

If you have never tried it, place a magnet on the very tip of the horn of the anvil to quiet it. You can then get a ring magnet and those hang on the trip very nicely through all the pounding. Good luck.

Years back when Mike Blue visited the UK he told the story of his neighbors. He made them a really nice kitchen knife (maybe a couple), then they decided they didn’t like the noise and actually called the police to complain. Officers showed up to investigat. Mike explained what he was doing, then mentioned that the neighbors had not complained when he gave them one of his forged chefs knives worth $XXX. That really got the officers on his side. He was left to carry on and the neighbors were told that having accepted and used the gift they didn’t have much grounds to now complain.
