I vaguely remember as a kid some type of noise maker that made a loud pop. From what I remember you tore a piece of paper and slid it into a small slot. I think there must have been a piston like plunger that you pushed in and it burst the piece of paper with air resulting in a loud noise. Does anyone remember these? I would love to find a link to one to see what it looks like and how it works. However, my numerous google searches haven't turned up anything.

I may be remembering the device wrong but I remember being very small and ripping off little pieces of paper and putting them into some device and it making a loud pop noise. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated as this memory has been bothering me because I haven't found anything about it. Thanks!

You might want to search for a "burst disk" mechanism. That sounds like what you are looking for. Is this what you are talking about, except without the plunger?

Funny. This post isn't even about knives...

No not a cap gun. I would tear off pieces of paper from a large sheet and slide them into some sort of slot I assume. It was just notebook paper and no type of combustible. It was just the action of the pressure building up and rupturing the paper that made the noise.

I'm not an old fart yet but I had a feeling it was probably something my grandmother gave me or was one of my dad's toys that was left in storage. They don't make simple things like that anymore. My dad had me at an old age so if it was my dad's or something my grandmother had around it probably came from the 1930's-40's.

I really wish I could find something on it because it seems like it sounded about like a firecracker going off yet was only a little piece of paper.

Hi Butch,

That second one is probably along the lines of what I am talking about. I don't really remember the shape of it so I don't know if it looked like that. I don't remember a roll of paper and it seemed like I just tore little pieces of paper off and stuck them in. I also remember making the first one you linked to when in probably elementary school.

Thanks for finding that! I wish they showed the details better but I guess the way it works is pretty simple.

Glad to help, just got my curiousity up,but I do think there was a version that looks like a pistol.I'll keep looking:)Regards Butch
