Hi all,

Question for all people with knowledge of Ken Oniion's Speedsafe...

I have two Kershaw Speedsafes... A leek, and a Boron Chive. Chive has not been used excesively and yesterday, for the first time, I noticed a sound.

Knife does not make sound when closed... Only open. It it not related to clip, safety slider, or a loose frame at all... I think the sound eminates from the speedsafe bar housing.

Knife still opens well and cleanly locks/ unlocks, but the faint rattlle it makes when shook in the open position makes me worried it may not be trustworthy as a carry piece anymore?

My other speedsafe makes a VERY faint rattling sound as well when shook in the open position, but nowhere near as audible, or as disturbing.

I thank all responders for talking the time to answer concerning this issue.

Bandogge, welcome to Blade Forums. When a speedsafe kmife is new, there is a small amount of grease in the track where to torsion bar moves. Over time, the bar will "push" the grease out of it's traveling area. With the blade open, there is no tension on the bar and it is free to move a little and make the rattling sound.Just need to open the knife and redistribute the grease.

Hope this helps.

Hey,

That sound is not disturbing at all. As was said it is simply that the torsion bar has the freedom to move when the knife is open unless it has enough grease holding it in place. Nothing to worry about and it is not necessary to open the knife and re-grease the cavity unless the rattle drives you nuts. I personally don't mind it.
