I guess my status now would be an avid backpacker. I have a great love of the outdoors and my interests have shifted towards survival and bushcraft. However, my resources are very limited (being a broke third year college student) and there are many schools i wold like to attend but my knowledge grows with each book I read, every post on this forum and all the practice I can find time for. My family has been devastated by the sickness of addiction and I have a strong vision of taking out-patients into the wilderness to show them good medicine. I discovered that my school has an agreement with NOLS (national outdoor leadership school) and I will be going to the Rockies for a whole semester in the fall. It’s not exactly the type of school I was hoping to attend but it seems like a great opportunity, especially because of the leadership skills it reinforces. I was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with NOLS that they might like to share…and since this is a blade forum, how can I get my Ka Bar to Wyoming and would it be a good idea or not to bring it? Thanks.

Bring your Ka-Bar to Wyoming from where? How are you planning to travel? If you fly, just wrap it up in your CHECKED baggage, and it's good to go.

From what I know about NOLS is that they are pretty strict as to what they allow you to carry in the field.

They dictate and supply much of your gear right down to type of boots and socks is my understanding. YOu may not be able to take your kbar, I would ask them before you go.

NOLS is a great opportunity for you, make the best of it.
