Nomenclature for Shields

I would like names for the various shields on several of my knives.

Would someone provide a link where I can find them?

Thanks!

Years ago, Houston Price of KnifeWorld and Cindy Rabb Taylor developed and published in The Official Price Guide To Collector knives, an appendix on shields.

They used line drawings of the known shields at the time and assigned them a codified name consisting of a letter a dash and a number.

They avoided the common names and were, I think, attempting to come up with a method of universally ID'ing shields.

That's pretty much gone by the wayside now. It's no longer included in the books.

Cindy Taylor, however, used it consistently in her descriptions of knives in the sales lists that she and Jim used to send out.

This has come up many times in this forum. If you do a search you will find much.

Thanks for the help.

I didn't find a list but I found enough examples.

I have a Lloyd with a fish on it also, engraved, which is a nice touch.

Many thanks again,

Tom

Examples is pretty much all you will find. There is no committee in charge of making sure everyone calls each shield style by a certain name.
