What does the nomenclature on the Kukri stand for? Symbols etc. , by the handle

One of mine has a star ...initials it appears? I don't care, just curious.

I may try to post a couple pics if I can figure it out. To get the exact skinny.

Look in the stickies and frequent questions section, pretty thorough explanation there.

In a nut shell the UB stands for Aunties late husband and genuine good guy Uncle Bill. Most all HI blades have that etched in since his passing.

The symbol the star in your case is the Kami's mark, each Kami has his own unique mark. Purna for example is a Bull head, the star is Kumar? Am I right guys. Tirtha was a beer mug, Bhakta a bow and arrow and so on.

The other writing is something to do with HI and the Bir Gorhka factory. Smarter folks than I will probably elaborate on this some.

I personally think it's pretty cool to actually know who made your knife, see a picture of them from time to time, kind of personal.

Not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me but wasn't Bookie or Gehazi who posted lately a lot of pics of markings/names?

These pics suck and don't do the Kukri justice, but one has a Star and one has a Sunburst of sorts. Both give Uncle their respects!

Your M-43 is made by Kumar
I can't tell what the mark is on the other.
Always best to take a macro shot of the mark in diffuse lighting straight on.

The top one is a Kumar 30oz 15" M-43. I know this for two reasons. First, I have several Kumars. Second, I almost bought this one, and regret not going for it. It's a beautiful blade.

The second is a 15" BAS. I recognize the Kami mark, but it slips my mind at the moment. I'll get back to you on this one.

Edit: Lachhu

The m43 is 18 I think, what would the weight be? Its hefty.

Kumar has my vote of confidence. That blade is awesome. My BAS craftsmanship is right there with it though. I think its very cool knowing who made the knife and I bet it keeps quality very high at all times. Great practice for a win win win.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Looks like Lachhu's mark to me. He is very skilled. I am fortunate to have a 16.5" WWII by Lachhu.

Here is a pic of my Kumar Karda made by Sher. The mark is a rising sun, but according to one of the marking guides, it was just a sun before 2002, and your mark resembles the pictures. If that blade is new, then maybe something changed, but that is my best guess. Not doubting you Dobe_1, as I am just going off my blades and the marking guides, and am probably wrong. Where did you find Lachhu's mark?

Edit: forgot the pic

The sun is Lachhus mark, it is the same on my Pen knives as well. The half sun with 7 rays is Sher's mark.
