Non A/O Flipper

I recently got a Needs Work, and I like the A/O, but I am looking into a non-A/O flipper to use around "sheeple." So far, I like the looks of the Lahar and the JYD. My dilema is that I like the Lahar's blade steel, G10, and the option of opening it via flipper or thumbstuds, but I also like the JYD's framelock, blade shape, and I read great reviews about them.

I prefer the lock on the JYD but I don't like the pocket clip on it... it is just plain ugly.

I would like to know, do these knives have a hollow or flat grind?

And, what knife do you prefer, or what knife would you recommend in place of one of these 2 knives?

Thanks,
Guilo

Ok, thank you, that Skyline looks nice, but I don't know how long I want to wait for the knife. I just wish it were made with a framelock and had a flat grind (it may already... I couldn't quite tell from the picture).

The Ener-G looks nice, but I think I am liking the Lahar and JYD the best so far... though the Skyline is pretty close, and I might want to wait for that one.

I think that the main thing I need to know to make the decision is what kind of grinds each knife has. I prefer flat grinds over hollow grinds.

well the Lahar is a VERY nice knife *note to self. get paycheck, send Lahar to STR for "work"*. its a big knife though (dispite the looks). The JYD is a nice knife from what i can tell. I have its big brother, the JYD2 which is a freakin work horse. they are both even in my book. depends on how big your hands are i guess. my hands find the JYD to small for EDC. if it is comfortable to you, then go for it. (i am asuming that you have acess to previewing the knives. if not, then well, I vote Lahar. it'll feel great reguardless).

good luck! *psst get both!*

Take a look at the Groove...an exceptional knife, very unique. Also, I really like my ENER-G's...

I haven't felt either knife, I have only seen pictures of them beside a Needs Work. I am over 6' 3", so I will probably need a knife that will fit large hands. The Lahar is sounding better every post.

How deep are the grooves on the Groove? I am not sure how strong the blade would be if they are very deep.

The Groove has a good and beefy blade. It's one sweet knife.
Don't let the grooves sway you from the Groove. They're not very deep.

Ok, do the grooves really help or hinder performance? Or are they more decorative than usefull?

How about a Mini-Cyclone?...You can turn off the AO on that one if you have to use it around sheeple.

Guilo, RJ Martin, the designer of the Groove has said somewhere in the Kershaw forums that the striations in the blade actually help by lowering resistance. Makes sense, less blade area for contact, while still allowing for a full cutting edge.

I have one, and also have large hands. It's a fairly big knife, frame lock, and great G-10 overlays for grippyness...the opening is as fast as any of my Cyclones. All in all, it's one of my favorites.

Thanks SPX, that helps a ton.

Glockman, I have looked into one of those, and it is extremely tempting to get one, especially the zdp cyclone, but I don't have the cash to get one of those. A mini cyclone is an option I hadn't thought of yet... one more to add to the growing list.

I have one problem with Kershaw. They make too many nice knives. It is too difficult to make a decision because of all of the different models that they make.

That convinced me, Groove first, and the rest later.

Nice choice. I think you'll really dig the Groove.
It opens buttery smooth and fast with a good flipping technique.

I guess reading R.J. Martins post helped a bit in deciding on the Groove...? ;)

Yep, that did it. I looked up some other reviews and it sounds like a nice knife.

Great. I'm glad it helped.

Now, as Thomas and I both mentioned, give the ENER-G strong consideration for your next purchase. Beautiful blade, the sharpest one right out of the box I've gotten from Kershaw. It's one hell of a slicer, and mine gets a lot of carry time.

Enjoy the Groove!

2 (KS1745)...the large one. I find the flipper mechanism (non AO) works a little better with the larger blade. Same for the ZT0200. More blade mass, I guess...
