I feel its *THE* best pistol made by the best company in the business. Anyone have a better canidate? Read up on this gun here.

P.S.
The BladeForum ad for Mr. Darrel Ralph's Apogee is a broken link! :S http://www.infinet.com/~browzer/bldesmth.html

For that price, might as well get a Les Baer. Any of the concept pistols or the premier II.

Did I stumble onto the wrong forum by mistake? Does anyone know where the Balisong Knife forum is? Thanks, JohnR7

I've got to go with Batangueno! I bought a Baer Premier II almost 6 years ago and it's the finest pistol that I own!!! There are NO MIM parts (metal injection molding) in anything they make and the Les Baer line of pistols and rifles are the best to be had. You get what you pay for........The Kimber is a fine .45 but the Baer is the BEST!

Yes, a great 1911. Now, since you live in Seattle, go to Dane Burns in Issaquah and have him grind off those forward cocking serrations.

Forward cocking serrations: bleah!

Les Baers eh? I haven't had a chance to look at all the Baer models yet but I will. Damn those things are expensive! http://www.lesbaer.com

I haven't ordered it yet, but I can get the Kimber Super Match and the .22LR conversion kit together for $1750. The kit is so I can shoot at the little range that is 3 blocks from my house.

Its a toss up between the Kimber Super Match and the Baer Ultimate Master Combat Compensated or the Ultimate Master Combat 6".

The Baers are considerably more cash and I'm not sure that they are worth it...?

I want the best. But best isn't always the most expensive.

What makes the Baers so much better than a Kimber? Both are very well made and are of competition quality out of the box.

I would like a ported barrel and Kimber doesn't make one... but that isn't a big issue.

The Baers are compltely hand-fit, hand -checkered, and the accuracy is guaranteed! Unless you want to spend twice what the Baer costs and get a Heinie, Brown, etc...you won't be able to do any better!

I think you will be happy with the Kimber. I have a costom compact and I love it. Take the extra money you save from buying the Kimber and spend it on .45 auto shells, if you shoot a lot it gets spendy. Kimber does have a costom shop where they can put on a compinsated barrel for you. Kimbers are a good gun for the money, tolerences are very tight, trigger pull is oh so nice- oh yah, and thier accurate too.

I've decided on the Kimber. I need to leave room for expansion.

A compenstaed barrel for the Kimber!? The dealer I've been talking to says they don't make it. The Super Match comes from the custom shop... I'll have to try sending an email to Kimber and see if I can get a reply.

Thanks all for the input!

I am new here , and I also shoot IPSC matches
for several years now , I believe that if you
are seriosly thinking of purchasing a handgun
especially a "pricey one" , you should check
and see if that model or maker will be comfortable with you , as far as handling and
pointability , even the caliber that you will
be comfortable, shooting with. Trust me ,
bigger is not better.....

Kimber vs. Les Baer???? I have both, and I would go for the Les Baer if you want the best. The Rock River Arms 1911s are also better than the Kimbers, and chaeper than the Les Baers. The original Kimbers made in Clackamas Oregon are alot better than the N.Y. made specimens. On the new Kimbers, some guns have been improperly heat treated and a bit brittle. The Les Baer and Rock River 1911s are alot more consistant in their assembly and heat treatment. Quality costs!

For my personal choice it would be my handgun that I carry for duty: Heckler & Koch MK-23. My off-duty gun of choice is a Glock 24 converted into .357 Sig.

Ayie... I like 45s but I don't know of anywhere I can go shoot a Kimber though.

There are a few ranges where I can rent and fire guns but nothing of as high a quality.

The Kimber I'm talking about, the Super Match, is the best they make... and it does cost quite a bit.

Which Kimber and Les Baers do you have? I will take a look at the Rock River Arms.

I haven't ordered anything... I've come very, very close though.

Between my knife habit and my soon-to-be gun habit, its looking like I'll have to wait an extra month to get my 2001 Acura TL... :S

NaTeDogg,
I have a standard Kimber that I customized(I'm a part time pistolsmith) and a Kimber Super match like the picture. I had to hand pick my personal pistol because the other Super Matches didn't feel right. For the Les Baer, I have the SRP single stack. Lots of money, but quality costs. As for my duty and carry guns (HK MK 23 and Glock 24 in .357 Sig) they work just fine, accurate, durable, and reliable.
