A while back I picked these three 110s up from a well known ebayer. Here's my question; do you guys stick with factory customs, or do you dabble in others as well? I've decided to stick with factory stuff, but I do like these three. I believe they were done by a Yellowhorse...Ron or Brian. I'm sure I have it written down somewhere!

Tony,
I should mention that knives customized by others, not in colaboration with Buck, dont have a warranty from Buck. So it would be a good idea to check with those other companies to see if they offer a warranty.
There has been quite a proliferation of companies doing this type of work lately and I am very worried that this information might not be passed on to their customers.
Those 3 knives look absolutely stunning by the way!

Joe,
Great info, thanks! I hadn't thought about that in the past, except for the auto conversions that I knew weren't covered. However, I'll keep it in mind for future buys.

That being said I'm a 110 guy and it seems that unless one really abuses them they rarely fail.

Have you seen a patten of certain "custom" maker's knives coming back to you more than others?

I certainly cant talk about the quality of those knives, only because I havent seen many. For the most part, all we are talking about is a replaced inlay so I would guess that as long as they use good rivets/glue, and dont get any glue on the inner workings of the knife, it should hold up.
So far, of all the 110 knives being rehandled by other companies, I have only had two returned for warranty work. One looked like it took a pretty hard shot to the inlay, which shattered.
The other had a broken blade so as a courtesy, we tried to reblade it. That inlay also shattered and the customer demanded that we fix it. We did...Now we wont even touch a knife if someone else has worked on it. We cant gaurantee their work will stand up to our repair process and the warranty is voided anyway.

Joe, I've seen some recent listings of "customs" that advertise Buck's warranty. It's a shame that the sellers are able to get away with that. I don't believe that the seller I was referring to ever claimed a warranty. I was well aware at the time of purchase of the warranty situation. Unless something catastrophic occurs in my gun safe, I don't think I will need a warranty!!!

I dont think the Yellowhorse family did them.....No filework,inlays,ect....Two other great custom artists working with Bucks are Leroy at triple R knives and Wild Bill Cody....TRUE ART IN BUCK.....

i have one from David adn these some how don quite have that
"yellowhorse' lookn to me ... they look more like that new one 'wildhorse'

yes there is many false buck customs...
many dont say that the warrenty is void..
i ahve seen some good work but mostly much of it is questionable..

i wish i was privy to bucks policys and leagle dept to know what is happening with stoping the fake customs...does buck have some one for that job?

on new knives it is much much easer then the ones from so-cal..
...i feel sorry for so many of the buyers that are unknowingly buying the new knives knot knowing they are not factory..

if you run in to any old knives it is very hard to tell 'factory' customs from others
many one off , cuastom or 'personalized' knives were made for employees
these will have full factory looks and appearance ...
so it pays to know your bucks !
oh yes -that is why many come here is'nt it?

I think most people do know the difference between factory and not. I grabbed the aforementioned knives merely because of looks. The scale work is phenomenal in fit.

There are a few on this forum who only go for "official Buck" But many of us [me inclued] like and collect any nice Buck.....One of the most prized 112s I own is a one of a kind chip flint, stag,ns bolsters that was made/crafted/created by Leroy of triple R... Now its ALL Buck but it was neaver made in that configuration in the Buck factory......File work/scrimshaw Bucks are priszed(sic) and collected, but few come strait from Buck that way.Buck knives could be compared to the collector car market. Some want 100% factory origional with all correct date code parts to thoes who love WILD hot rod customs.....Its what YOU like....

I don't know that any of us are in a position to tell another what to collect. Collect what you want. However, a lack of warrantee and the multitude of non Buck customs that are out there have kept me from buying any non Buck made/distributed knives for my collection other than some Striders which were the prototypes for the Buck/Strider Series knives. Sooner or later you have to put a boundary on what you collect and begin to focus on something. Buck has put out enough knives over the years that I can play in that sand box a long time before I will venture out into the world of non Buck customs.

amen brother! i would add "dont collect it because others think it valueable-
collect it because YOU want it! not that others want it..."
need i say more then 'baseball card' and that broke bubble...

yes i stay in that sand box mostly also..
here i would add that it is hard to collect them all...
foucsing on one aspect can be extreamly rewarding...
i do 110's -a lot of them, and starting on a FEW 124's and
have sold all my 112's ...
drawing lines and staying with them helps to define the collection ..
heck i realy need to sell some of the ones that dont fit and the ones i have two of ... i dont deal ... i jest sell what is being replaced is how i think of it...
many i see at shows buy and sell a lot to suport the habbit..
i would not recomend doing so as all busness has risk ..
collect it because you want it not because it is a bargan and you can resel it and make a 'buck'...

i have one Dave Y. i sent him a club knife.
so it is buck but also DY and lovely!
here is were i would encurage buck to lisence certified trained personal to produce custom bucks...
and that way put a stop to cheep custom makers..

What a coincidence...we just got another one of those 110's in. The problem was the guy broke the tip of the blade but I did have a chance to examine the inlay work.
In my humble opinion, this particular piece was not done well. It had one of those plastic inlays and there were gaps. I am not trying to say that they are all poorly made but whoever made this one came up short.

Did someone say "collect what you want" ???!!!!! But I want them ALL!!!! :D

... dont we all .. i keep telling my self - i only collect 110,,, i only collect what a 110 blade will fit in...
.. oh who am i kidding ...
i want them all also...
some i want more then others
and some i want NOW!!!:D

To me Bucks are the most intresting, best made,"American", knife out there.... Then of course theres the BCCI....I LOVE playing with the 112s...The thrill of the hunt !!!! I am so glad I found my "FOCUS" early, but there is a Buck for ALL your knife needs......That 650 Night Hawk is soon going to fill my "Truck Buck" need........

A while back I picked these three 110s up from a well known ebayer.

*Which* well known eBayer??? Some well known eBayers have questionable reputations...and others (navajoprincess2b for example) have exemplary reputations...

If you don't want to state a name, post a link to a completed auction...or post a link to a thread in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...

There's been some "well known eBayers" touted in this forum as upright, respectable, honorable sellers...when they are *not*...

I'd just like to know who you are singling out here...and it is perfectly acceptable to post a "good" in the GB&U Forum...

That would be Navajoprincess2b. Very good Trax!!! And I would consider her to be exemplary.

I do, too - I have a couple of her offerings...

I think 334dave said once that she is married to one of the Yellowhorse's...It would be interesting to know what her affiliation is to Buck and/or the Yellowhorse clan... :)

I decided to dig into the boxes they came in and this is what I found...
