Non-Scaling Compound

Was thinking of using Brownells non-scaling compound on 1095 with a heat treat oven; http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1122/Product/NON_SCALING_COMPOUND. Had a couple of concerns.

- Does it eat refractory?
- Will it create an insulating effect and hinder 1095 from getting under the curve within the .5 second limit?

1. No, but if you use the powder, make sure that you don't get any blobs on the blade. It will bubble and pit the blade if you do.
2. No, as long as you don't put it on too thick.
I switched over to the liquid stuff a while back. You put it on like you would a slip coat of thin Satanite and let it dry.

I just spent the last 15 min trying to track down a liquid non-scaling compound to no avail. Where are you getting your from?
