I learned of this from someone that posted about wrapping his Khuks handle with it and I put this same thread on the general blade discussion but think I'll get better responses here maybe.

This other thread talked about using the self adhereing wrap like Coban to wrap around the handle producing a non slip and cushioned grip. I tried it on my BK-7 and it works great. It did enlarge the grip some, but I feel it fits my hand better now than before. I put a few wraps on the handle and when the grip gets stained and ugly, all I have to do is take one wrap off, cut it and new handle wrap again.

Does anyone think that the latex wrap will cause the handle to sweat creating rust problems?

the biggest pronlem i can see is that if you use the hollow handles for carrying survival mini/micro-kit goodies, you may have made it too difficult to get to it!!!!

Thanks for the response. I thought about that myself and this product doesn't adhere to the knife, only to itself. I did a search on 3M and found that they also have an athletic product, same as the coban and it comes in 2, 3 and 4" widths and is available in black, so am going to go with that one. I also found that the stuff breaths so the knife sweating is much less of a worry. They also have an actual gripping wrap that is self adhereing or can be applied with adhesive, depending on the product you go with.

longbow,

my guess is that as long the coating is solid and stays in tact under the handles and the wrap, rust won't be a problem. If you have any chips or breaches in the coating, you could probably expect rust there.

As long as you are going to keep the handle wrapped and do not plan to store goodies in the hollow, you might want to consider using silicon caulk to seal off all crevices where water could seep between handle and blade.

Just some thoughts.
