As stated in the title, I'm looking for non-Spyderco EDC options that meet all the following criteria:

- Folder
- Locking
- Stainless Steel
- Less than $100 shipped
- Combo Edge
- Less than 3" blade

I am a familiar with the Spyderco options which is why I'm looking for other options.

Thanks for your help!

Doug

A folder?

What kind of lock do you like?

Any specific steel choice?

American made?

Yes, folder, sorry. Stainless steel options only please. Prefer a locking knife but the lock type and point of manufacture are not super important. Just looking for quality.

This would be my choice.

Kershaw Leek 1660TGRYST. Blade steel is S30V.

The gent who will end up with this knife is in NY state. Probably another thread would be how is Speedsafe or Assisted openers received under NY State law/law enforcement?

I 3rd those. Just picked up a combo edge Leek for $48 OTD for my Dad. Sharp as hell, slim in the pocket, deploys very quickly. Hard to beat IMO unless you want to spend an extra 15-20 bucks on a Benchmade 556 mini grip. Tougher perhaps, but the Kershaw deploys faster and is a much better slicer IMHO.

Right now, I think all knives might be looked down apon. Check the Knife laws subforum for what I am talking about. For a recomendation, check the Buck Vantage Pro Small.

As a member of knife rights, I saw the email about the shakedown. I'm probably going to be avoiding Speedsafe and Assisted options.

Buck 110 or Pro vantage

Neither of those are combo edge or under 3"...

You might check out the new CRKT Ken Onion collabs. The Ripple comes in combo edge, methinks - not sure about the Eros. They're also manual openers.

The Kershaw Junkyard dog comes in a serrated version, although they're discontinued now...the blade comes right in at 3", like the leek.

I believe the smaller Boker Exkellibur would also fit your needs, but I'm not sure it comes in combo edge...

I don't own any of those knives, so I can't vouch for their quality myself, but I've heard good things. Personally, I'd say the leek is a great option, but if you're not a fan of the assist, that's understandable.
