Non-Stainless Care

I own several carbon steel knives and am concerned with with rust prevention. I also own a bicycle shop, and one of the newer chain lubes on the market is Boeshield. It is a wax base lube dissolved in a VERY volatile carrier so it penetrates as quickly and deeply as WD40, but when the carrier evaporates it leaves behind a pretty substantial wax coating that contains some dry lubricants as well. Seems really promising for lubrication/protection.

Could be good stuff. I have heard of people endorsing the similar chain lube for knife coating. Sounds good to me. I have become a fan of baby/mineral oil. Its clear, doesn't smell much and if it does it's good, and doesnt impart much taste to food. Also dirt cheap.

The problem with all lubes is, once you start using the knife, it's gone. Need to wipe down again soon.

I've been an advocate of bike lubes in knives for quite a while. They're readily available and less exensive than knife specific lubes.

I have had the best luck with Finish-Line Teflon Plus Dry and White Lightning but will be sure to check out your suggestion next time I need lube. Both types I've mentioned evaporate a leave a film as well, teflon & wax respectively..
