Are there any other types of steels out there better than 1095? Am only looking for non stainless steels. Or is 1095 pretty much the best kind?

3V is a very amazing steel, S7 has gotten great marks. Most tools steels will outperform stainless or carbon in different areas. Maybe not necessarily better, but it's not right to say one steel is better than another, it depends on what you want out of it.

There is no best kind of steel, depends on the intended use.

There are numerous steels that will outperform 1095 in different areas. At least for the knives you'd be concerned with toughness and edge holding.

CPM 3V, INFI, S7, S7XL from crucible and bunch of others will be a lot tougher than 1095 for large blades.

For small knives where edge holding on abrasive wear is more important CPM 110V, ZDP-189, CPM 10V, M4, M2, there's dozens of them..

Other PM steels

1095 is a good steel, especially when heat treated properly, but it is a relatively simple, non alloyed, carbon steel.

1095 is a good alloy. There are other that are non-stainless that are arguably better, depending on the use. A2, O1, 5160, et. al. all have fans.

Here's a link to the Steel FAQ sticky over on the maintenance Forum:

That would likely be a help to you.
