I can never remember which is the chakma and which is the karda, give me time and i'll get it. In this case I am talking about the knife. I have yet to recieve my first khukuri and I am already playing with it . How many of you actually use the karda, and of you who do what do you use it for?
Also how many of you have replaced your karda with a better one (I have read that the karda is often lower quality than the khukuri)? What did you replace it with?

wow 4 questions in one post my personal record.

Karda and knife both start with "K," that's how I remembered it. I use some of my kardas as utility knives. I've reground one or two for specialized purposes. I do have one replacement karda that I carry a lot and have used for field dressing during deer season. It's an incredibly hard steel with micarta handles. :)

karda and chakma are:

torture knives
large-bore body piercing jewelry
throwing knives
horse boil lancing tools
toothpicks
corn holders

My initial thought was a deer dressing knife, and finesse work around the camp fire. Never thought torture, or even tooth pick. However that last idea might come in handy.

Danny In Japan is just quoting some of the more outlandish descriptions of the Karda and Chakma from off of E-Bay. And maybe some of Bruise's better one liners.
;) :D :D

If you look at some of the older or more ornate khuks you'll notice some came with several by-knives or tools, making them the Swiss Army knife of their day. The Karda was used much as a pocket knife. The Chakma was used as a steel ( ala butcher's or cook's steel ) to align the khuk's edges. It was also used to strike sparks from flint to start a fire. Many khuks have a small pouch to carry tinder in. Another tool was an awl, and there are many various devices including a buttonhook tool you might have wished to have when trying to get that top collar button done.
;) :p :D

dude, i was totally joking.
