"Non-tactical" Tactical Folder?

Any suggestions for a "non-tactical" looking folder that is strong, practical and useable as both a tool and weapon if need be? (I am surrounded by Sheeple -- even my wife who doesn't even blink at a gun gives scary knives an odd look...)

Something modern, but not scary. Less than 3.5 inches, I would think.

Any ideas?

The Sebenza is a great choice if it is within your price range. The smalls are particularly freindly looking and easy to cary in the pocket or iwb. Scary sharp, very strong, and a very positive lockup.

Good luck,
John...

Benchmade Mini-griptilian is my choice. You could even get it with funky colored grips.

Best regards,

do you have the 555 or 556 model?? Which blade edge?
thanks

I just ordered a 555 tonight, can't wait for it to come in. The 555 blade might look a little more innocent than the 556, I chose it over the 556 because I prefer the hole to a thumb stud.

Maybe something like a Victorinox one-hand Trekker Swiss-Army-Knife. It can be opened one handed, has a locking main blade, and also has the screwdrivers and such. Not scary at all, and does great as a tac-folder and multi-use knife.

Benchmade 94x!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very hardy folder, but looks just like any other 'knife' to sheeple, because of mostly the rather thin stock.

You may want to consider the rainbow-finished version of the Kershaw Leek. The design itself has the slim look of a gentlemen's knife and that amazing rainbow finish is just too pretty to scare people.

One of those new "dark ops" knives that are coming out. THe ones with the special blood grooves to control the splatter factor, and the sharpest steel to assist in deanimating your foes.

I just had a chance to handle a Spyderco Ed Schemmp Persian for a week through one of the passarounds. IMO, it's a great choice to look into. I did post a write up about in the Knife and Gadget Passaround Forum if you're interested.

A few others to consider that haven't been mentioned are a Spyderco Lum Chinese Folder, Ka-Bar/Dozier Thorn, Al Mar's Ultralight Series, CRKT's Lake Signature and Convergence, and a BM 690.

If you've got the cash, William Henry or a custom would be the way to go.

Try Kershaw Blur with silver blade and gray handle with black inserts. It does not look tactical but provides very good grip and cutting power.

A credit card knife, totally concealable and non threatening. Stealth and surprise is probably one of the best tactics in a self defense situation.
Will also cut a range of day to day tasks if required.
Don't leave home without one.

The Benchmade 556 or 555 is just what you're looking for, especially with a bright friendly colored handle.

My latest EDC is a bright yellow 556 and it does'nt freak people out even when I use it at work--and I work in a hospital.

As mentioned before, the Kershaw Rainbow Leek is also a good choice.

Happy hunting,
Allen.

The Spyderco Lil' Temperence, leaf blade, does not look scary to me (nice green handles, blade not too pointy). But maybe that's just me.

I would also suggest the Sebbie. More specifically the small Sebbie which has a sub 3" blade.

At about $100 range (sorry guys but my two month old son gets the lion's share of the household budget)

CRKT Wasp (gave as a gift to my brother)

Boker Titan (http://www.agrussell.com/index.html offers a version - Boker Lockback Folder) looks like a gents knife but has the tactical thumb stud.

Just got an early father's day gift of two Xikar Extreme one combo blade one plain edge. Funky design may throw people off. Looking forward to testing this weekend.:)

The knife most fitting the title of this thread may be the Spyderco Persian.
Looks very nice and unoffensive but fits and works in a quite practical way.
Ive often heard them recommended but didn't really understand till I held one.
Ed Shemp's design is an instant classic. I give it five stars!

Another vote for the Persian,

such a classic folder with the bolsters like our granddad used to carry.
