I'm looking for a new anodizing bath for doing titanium that does not contain TSP Trisodium Phosphate and -- wait for it! -- that is available over the counter in Germany or in the European Union. Trying to import chemicals into the EU is a drag.

Please don't say Coca Cola! ;)

I am using distilled water and white vine vinegar. It works fine, is very cheap and you can dispose of it safely.
But that's probably just poor mans coke. :)

I've heard of the coke but haven't tried it.
I know HCL commonly called muriatic acid, can be used but don't know a mix.

So some folks use an acid and others use a base? TSP is basically a strong soap, it's (rightly) prohibited here due to the bad effects on the environment when sent down the drain. There's a no-TSP cleaner that Reactive Metals sells in the USA but I have not been able to find it here.

I'm talking about the solution to use for electro anodising titanium, I hope we are all on the same page?

All you need is an electrolyte of some type for anodizing, there are tons of options.

On the other hand, many people use a strong acid to etch the metal before anodizing, which can give brighter colors, and even out finishes, but we're taking extremely strong stuff like Hydroflouric Acid or Hydrochloric Acid, as less aggressive acids have little or no effect on Titanium. Don't get confused though, all that's necessary for the electro etching process is an electrolyte in the water.

I've used Borax, TSP, and Baking Soda, and a number of other chemicals, they all work fine for anodizing, or electrolytic rust removal of steel, or any similar process.

Try a dedicated professional paint store

AMazon carries that if you can get it though customs.

That's the stuff Reactive studios has in the catalog - phosphate free

That's the stuff I was looking for but trying to import chemicals is a real bad idea unless you have a chemical supply business. Not as bad of an idea as trying to use hydroflouric acid for ANYTHING outside a lab setting with major safety gear YIKES!!! but still bad.

I was hoping maybe somebody in the EU knows if that phosphate free cleaner is on the market here and works for a Ti anodising bad.

It's soap.

I'd try ordering one, it's pretty cheap if it gets blocked

I suspect that you can't get that brand, it will probably have Germany compliant labeling.
Have you tried searching in real stores including pro paint stores ?

I can get that stuff in any hardware or grocery store here.

It may be soap to you but I don't have a half a workday to spend at German Customs dicking around with what they call it.

There are tons of soaps and cleaners on the market here, I was hoping to avoid spending too much time buying and testing them all. But I reckon I may have to.

Thanks for the suggestions.
