I'm loving this Spyderhawk but i'm really not a fan of yellow so is there a way to change to color? Or replace it with like something else?

Only option for black is to RIT-Dye it black, not possible to replace the handle without breaking it.

As stated above, you could die it black. If you try any other color, it isn't going to come out right since it's yellow to start with... Maybe you could make green if you mix it with blue? Or a crappy orange if you mix it with red?

Another option is to make your own scales, rip apart the FRN, and put the blade, lock bar, and spring in. That's probably extreme for most people, but I'm sure you could hire one of the forum's knife mechanics to do it.

Or look for one of the older VG-10 ones. They came in SE with black handles, and PE with blue.

Basically, mix the dye in very hot water and put the object you want to dye into the dye bath. You cannot really mix the FRN base color and the dye color the way you'd think you might. I'd go for black. It will have about the same surface as before, so if it was shiney, it will be shiney; if it was matte, it will be matte.

You need to degrease the knife and clean everything out before you dye it or you'll get a very nice tie-dye effect. Great for lacrosse stix but not what you want for your knife, probably. And when you're through, you'll need to dry it out pretty well (though it's a Salt, so...) and then re-lube.

Black dye is pretty easy to find at fabric stores, some supermarkets, Walmart, etc.

Google up the RIT dye website and check their instructions. There's also a big threat at Spyderco forums on using RIT dye.

I've done it (orange D4 from a white FRN D4). It works well.

There are epoxy coatings that will adhere to FRN handles. There are other industrial grade coatings that would stick to FRN. But I'm kind of puzzled as to why you would want to do that.

The yellow handle is really kind of handy in my way of thinking. I have a few of Spyderco's yellow handled SALT series blades and for work knives I think it's great. Because it makes them very easy to find if you were to happen to misplace one.

The entire SALT series is really meant to be a hard use knife. Personally I like the yellow handles because of the functional aspect.
