I have made a handful of sheaths. Everyone gets a little better. I bought a shoulder its about 1/2 gone. This is my latest and first use of snaps. I would like to get some honest feedback or suggestions on how to improve my work. I have been having the most trouble with the edges on my welt, but this one is better than the others. Thanks for looking and fire away :)

Looks like your heading in the right direction, pretty clean work there.

A few things I'd suggest for your basic kit is an edge beveler, Tandy makes a nice one that has a slight curve toward the tip, the straight ones are a bit unwieldy.

Next would be an edge slicker, essentially a disk with a groove in it, you dampen the edge and run the slicker along it to get a nice smooth edge on a single thickness of leather.

For multiple layers you want a few grades of sand paper or a belt/disk sander. After the welt is nice and even, bevel the edges then final sanding with at least a 400 grit. YOu can use gum tragacanth with a heavy cloth for the final polish.

All this work produces a nice professional finish, but it IS a lot of work. My wrists and elbows attest to this fact on a daily basis, ugh.
