Just recently started looking into axe collecting since revolvers have gotten out of sight price wise. I recently picked up a Plumb splitter and an unmarked narrow swamper, i believe. Both have been soaked in Vinegar for 24+ hours and look great. Now, how do I keep them protected? Let me add that they will never be used to actually cut anything. I literally do not have a single real tree on my property. Here in South Florida its palms and bananas with a few Bird of Paradise mixed in. Nothing I cant handle with a pair of pruning shears. That being said I still want display the restored axes and keep them from rusting in some of the most salt corrosive air in the US. I dont want to paint them or do a forced blacking or bluing. I just want to protect the steel and whatever that looks like is fine with me. Should I oil them or coat them with a wax product? I use Renaissance Wax on guns and it works well.

To your "can I use ___ oil/wax/patina" questions, Yes.

Rust protection is quite easy. Just check every once in a while, Don't lose sleep over it
