Looking to purchase my first quality folding knife. I'm looking at a gently used Spyderco CPMS35VN which will be in the $50-60 range. From the limited information I have/know about these, it looks to be a reasonable deal - what are your thoughts?

I switch knifes constantly. The one that's spent the longest in my pocket has been a Native 5 g-10 with s35vn steel. Off and on for close to a decade! And has lasted several "I've got to sell knifes" times. My paramilitary 2 in s110v is gaining on it though...

Fine choice for a first Spyderco. But a word of advisement; it won't be your last.

A PM2 is an awesome second Spydie.

Resistance is futile.

anyone comment on whether $50-60 is a reasonable price for a native 5 g10 in good condition?

The Native 5 is a really good knife especially if you like your lockbacks.

Usually the Native 5 w/ S35vn and G10 scales with metal liners sell for around 90-125. So if you can get your hands on one for 50-60 then you are getting a really good deal.

For a first Spyderco there are 3 that would be hard to go wrong with
Para Military
Native
Endura or Delica depending on the size you prefer.

That would be a smoking deal. Be sure it is real. I have seen fake Paras that even with as many Spydercos as I have owned I really had to look hard at to tell.

MSRP new is $220, most common US "street price" new is $132. Spyderco's tend to hold their value fairly well, so I'd agree with u812, $50 to $60 for a "gently used" one is either a smoking deal or the knife is a fake.

i own a bunch of the natives, really a cool little knife to carry most places!$50 -60.sounds like a vary good deal to me!agreed with above, try to find out if its fake or not!.

Just took a peek & $85 to $135 are about what they are going for more or less ~~ depends on the Scales & who is selling it.!^^
Can't go wrong for $50 or $60 though if it is the real Native..!****

I'm assuming from your original post you're talking about a Native 5 LW. Excellent knife, had one and it just didn't get carried as much as others. Its in kind of a weird size bracket for me, along with the Delica.

MODS: I love being able to sore a d what I have learned to the newer guys, as I'm sure everyone else does. But what if we all pitched in to out together a stickie to point new guys in the right direction. Maybe use examples of some of the less expensive other brands to point them in the right direction.

Seems like a good price, but like others have said, make sure it's real!
Do you have pics??
I have an s35vn blade in the dark blue scales and it is a great little work horse! I beat the snot out of mine and it just shrugs it off and keeps going! Got it here off the Exchange for $70....worth every dime!

And, based on his later post (#6) I've assumed its a G-10 Native 5 in CPM S35VN. That price would certainly be more appropriate for the Native 5 Lightweight.

It's a real Native G10 - made in Golden, CO but looks like price is going to be more in the $80-85 range for that one. Still looking....Like the spydies and hope I don't have to settle for less. Walmart online has some Tenacious models w/g10 grips in the $45 range but not US made - same as Bass Pro - Theirs are not US either. Walmart Delica 4 models are running around $65. I have to stay at 3" in Colorado for concealed carry.

The fakes claim to be made in Golden too...

I would pony up the little extra to get the G10 Native.

I would get the lightweight as I much, much prefer FRN over G10. IMO, buy a standard Native or a Delica. :D
