Does anyone know if the kamis have made blades of non-eastern design? I was thinking of having a roman gladius styled blade custom made and was wondering if anyone had had anything similar done.

Welcome:)

The kamis can do a lot of things. Usually a physical sample (or sometimes a detailed drawing) yields the best results. A gladius probably wouldn't be too hard for them. The Manjushree sword is about the same width, double edged, and comes to a broad shouldered point like a gladius. Really, the grip and guard is all they need to work on...well, and shorten the blade down a bit.

You might email Yangdu at himimp@aol.com and let her know what you're thinking about.

They already make something a lot like that, called the Dukti sword.

Mine's 27.5 inches overall with a 20" blade, and 28.5 ounces. Depending on the kami, some may be substantially broader and thicker, and be closer to 37 ounces.

And closeups of the handle carving:

Several "Occidental" designs have been done by HI; some are visible on the site, others are not.

On the site, you can readily find a Bowie design (the Cherokee Rose), a medieval Seax, and the Falcata (a kind of ancient, European khukuri). Elsewhere around here (including a thread that I started), you may find several other bowies, the Hauswehr (recent variation on the medieval falchion), and I, myself, own a Rusty SD, a variation on the Scottish sgian dubh.
