NOOB question about Tomahawks

I'm new to Tomahawks and I have a question about there use.

I watched the video by IA Woodsman on Youtube and he said that Tomahawks were designed orginally to be able to remove the head from the shaft to use the head in different ways. I bought a ColdSteel Trailhawk and it has a set screw in the head holding it to the shaft. I never plan on throwing it and intend it to be a tool that can be used as a weapon.

If I remove the set screw to be able to remove the head will a need a new shaft to fit the head without the set screw?

Is there a Tomahawk tutorial anywhere to help a NOOB out?

Thanks

No new haft needed. I pull the set screws out of all of my CS hawks. Just flip it over and pound the head end of the handle on the ground a few times to seat the head.

Grab a beverage or two and click through the "mod'ing cold steel trailhawk" thread on this forum. All your questions will be answered. But yes toss that set screw and use the original handle, it friction-fits fine.

I've yet to buy a new handle for a CS tomahawk because of the set screw.

I don't use those silly things either.

BUT I am in the process of modding a CS Spike Hawk and have found a great way to fill that hole AND disguise it at the same time... using the set screw!

Holy cow are *you* in the right place. :D As pullrich said, have a (loooooooong) look at at the looooooooong thread on modding the cs trailhawk. Good times. Good times.
