Hi. I have not made a knife yet but recently had fun building new cocobolo handles for a German kitchen knife.
It was a first attempt and rates 2% on the scale I see here.
I would like to know more about fasteners for putting my wood to the metal .
Where can I buy them, types, etc.

I prefer not to use rivets, I like stainless steel.
I need to know more about torx screw layout, 4 screws into the metal staggered ? 2 screws into females coming through the wood on the other side, etc .

I saw some nice ornamental rivets ( ? ) screws here also

As you can see I am new at this, don't know nomenclature yet, etc. nOOb !

Anyway, TIA and I will check back after work tomorrow.

I will post this photo , almost embarrassed...... but had fun making it.
My screw choices were limited by females , had to spin/file them down on my drill press.
Ignore the wood thickness dimensions, they don't match. Next one will. :)

Thanks. Tree ( that is my name but couldn't get it as a sign in here )

Check out a knife supplier like Koval,Texas Knife Supply,or K&G.They have several different types of fasteners, and mosaic rivets. They also sell books on knife making.I prefer Corby style rivets.

Definitely check out the knife supply stores, they all have websites, just do a google search for them.

The corby rivets are also what I use for kitchen knives. One screws into the other and then you grind the excess and screw head off to make a flush fit with the handle.

You can use Torx screws with thicker bladed knives. You can either thread the hole in the handle with a tap or use what's called a threaded standoff which goes into the hole and the screws thread into that. I use the standoff and it works very well, especially when using blade stock that would be too thin to thread the hole itself.

Good Luck,
Sean
