Hi folks.

i am quite the noob on Busse knives. And after browsing the forum i came to the understanding that a specific knife model is made every 3 years (about).

Beeing quite in love with the :
Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress (NMFBM)

According to this page :
http://www.bussecollector.com/catalog/

It was last made in 2008 so it might be available again this year right ?
Now the biggest question that plagues me:
What web page do i have to keep an eye on if i want to get a hold of one ?

Currently there are two pages that might look promissing :

http://bussecombat.com/miva/merchant.mvc?

and

http://bussecompanystore.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PLST&Store_Code=BCS

I apreciate any information on the matter.

Yours sincerely,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Busse knives - Busse Combat Knife Company, Swamp Rat Knife Works, Scrap Yard Knife Company and of course the Busse Custom Shop.

Models come and go every few months. Some old ones are resurrected with design enhancements and some brand new models pop up from time to time.

Keep an eye out on the exchenge here for NFBMs, they appear every so often. They also appear in various Ganzas (Busse online sale extravaganzas, usually held here on these forums and the other Busse family forums) with various fit and finishes - from ready to beat combat grades to shiny and pretty custom shop one offs.

Hope this helps!

:)

Welcome. Rob covered most of this but here is my take on it. The company store has knives available for immediate shipment when they are listed on the link you posted. Busse Combat site lists a new knife for several months at a time (occasionally more than one model at a time) and you have to wait for those to be manufactured and shipped. It takes from weeks to months to receive one once you order it. They usually notify the forum of their intent to stop offering that model on the site and a new one will appear in its place. If you want a previously released model, your best bet is to try your luck at Blade, any other show where Busse has a booth, a Ganza which you will hear about on this forum, or visit the exchange and have paitience until you find what you are looking for. As far as I have seen, there is no guarantee that any model will be brought back. Good luck and fun hunting....

I'm not sure where you heard "a specific knife model is made every 3 years (about)"
But to my knowledge, Busse has never produced the exact same knife after it has been discountuied. They may make models with non standard colors or variants for shows/ganzas but I have never seen an exact same knife produced again. They may make one very similar but change the grinds, thickness or something but never the exact same model.
If they were to make a production knife it would be on the main Busse Website at : http://www.bussecombat.com/
The company store may get Busse knives in and the website is: http://www.bussecompanystore.com/

But if you want the exact same NMFBM, you will have to buy it on the exchange or hope one shows up at a show/ganza.

Good luck with your search.

Dan

This about sums it up. If you are waiting for "three years" for a model to come back around, those will be the longest decades of your life.

You might catch the same knife or a custom version if you traveled to the show.

You might try directly contacting the shop to find out if they have a blank in the model you want.

Dan forgot to say that the knives at the company store (www.bussecomapnystore.com) are available for immediate shipping. Those are listed knives that Skunk actually has in stock.

If you order from www.bussecombat.com, you are ordering a knife that has not been made yet. That means you will have a wait time. The great thing about this method of ordering, is that the shop does not charge you until the knife is about done and ready to ship.

Just troll the busse exchange (linked at the top of the Busse sub forum). Another good idea is listing a wanted to buy post in the WTB section describing the exact model you are looking for. People will contact you if they have one to sell.

Welcome to our crazy world! :D

As the responses above have by now explained to you, your NMFBM is not likely to return to the Busse sites for you to order. Sorry to dissappoint you. Your best bet is to explore the options that were available originally, check out eBay and the Exchange here to get a feel for current prices, and then patiently watch the resale market for 'your' knife to be offered. Or, if you can make it to one of the shows where Busses are offered, you might find something to tempt you. ;) The quest is part of the fun.

The Busse business model is not what most folks expect, and some don't want to play the game. They would prefer to order what they want, when they want it. Jerry has chosen to do things differently, and it seems to work for him.

Hope you stick around, and find what you want.

If you want one specific model "factory fresh", get ready to travel. As mentioned, no model is sold on the website more than once. It seems that the trade shows are fairly well stocked with classics and favorites though. If you want one specific model watch for which ones usually turn up at shows (Jerry usually posts pics so you can see a little of what's available without being there) and then plan on going to a few shows until you get what you want.
Otherwise just wait for a new model that is similar to the one that you wanted. For example, I regret not getting a NMFBM when they were available, but the Killa Zilla 2 is actually more up my alley and fills the same role, so when it was made available I jumped on the opportunity to buy one.

I heard that the folks at Busse Combat re-offered the SFNO a few years back after it had already been released (due to popular demand). Is this true?

Hi all
thanks for the replies. Seems like the exchange is the way to go for alas traveling to knife shows is out of the question for me.
Might give them a call as well when the next pay checks hit - always a chance to get lucky :)

I think he original SFNO came out in 2004. The somewhat larger Nuclear Meltdown SFNO (8" blade, 14" overall) was a regular offering in 2008 from the Busse combat site, and the SFNO LE (7" blade, 12.75" overall, saber ground) was offered here in 2009 in a limited edition of 300 knives.

Sort of. It was not offered for order again on the Busse site. As John explained, there was a special offer on a limited edition of 300. There have also been Combat Grade SFNOs, both flat ground and sabre ground versions, offered at shows for several years now.
