I bought a Lansky sharpener from a friend with no instructions, so, (this is gonna sound like I'm a idiot) do I pull the stone down away from the knife or push the stone up toward the knife? :o

Dude, it's really up to you. Grinding away from the edge is going to produce a more pronounced burr. Grinding toward the edge is how most conventional sharpening is done. Just do whatever feels comfortable to you, and make sure you get rid of the burr. Also, make sure the rods stay in firm contact with the bottom of the guide holes, or the angle will change.
Good luck.

Ok, I'll grind toward the edge, that's what I thought. I didn't know about keeping the rod in contact with the bottom edge, thanks for letting me know.
