Ok, what's the least expensive way to start out with a hawk? Go with something like a Cold Steel Trailhawk and the mod as I learn and/or have time and resources?

Advice please. Thanks for your time.

Maybe I'll poke around my gear at home and see if I can do some horse trading for one.

I would go with the CS trailhawk its hard not to like for alot of reasons.

Defiantly a trail hawk. For around 30 beans they're very forgiving to mistreatment and cool to mod to boot.good hawkin.

Maybe I'll look into a Trailhawk. Sounds like the best way to start out.

Suggestions on places with good prices and fast shipping?

I still need to poke around the for sale board. I think I've got a couple of different SOG assist opening pocketknives I could try to trade off. That way my only out of pocket would be shipping. :)

If your budget allows, it can be helpful to have more than one hawk...

For a thrower, I prefer the Cold Steel Frontier Hawk, or a clone of that style...

For chopping, get a Cold Steel Trail Hawk for small to medium tasks, and the Cold Steel Rifleman's Hawk for medium to big tasks...

For battle/fighting... spend $110 (this includes shipping, etc.) and get the VTAC...

That is my advice...
