Hello.....new guy here. I would like to buy a traditional folding pocket knife with satin finished blades....canoe...whittler....stockman...sowbelly etc.
looking in the $50-100 range. Would prefer stainless. Sharp is very important. I realize for that price range I won't be getting top of the line FF.
But that's all i can spend. What brands /models do you recommend?

Thanks................Bill

Case makes some that should fit the bill, stainless and in satin finish within your price range. Great Eastern also makes a few, but might be pushing the top end of your budget. I'm sure some other more experienced members here will chime in with quite a few options.

Case makes some nice knives with satin finish. Their tru sharp stainless gets a lot of negative feedback on here, but it is not that bad. It will take a very sharp edge and the edge retention is good enough for normal cutting tasks.

Don't recall if GEC ever made 440c with satin finish, but I would pursue that route. I don't go shopping for stainless traditionals so I can't be of much help.

The Buck 300 series is a satin stainless. Not as expensive as you are looking for. The 301 is a 4" (closed length) stockman. The 303 is 3 1/4". Both made in Idaho. Can be had in the $35 range. They usually come pretty sharp, but can be easily sharpened if need be. Synthetic handle materials, but pretty bullet proof if that is what you want.

CASE brown delrin models have brushed/satin finish. I think the blue American Workman seres had those too. CASE also offers a range of brushed/satin knives in black G-10 this with brass pins gives an excellent contrast and I would opt for this. G-10 looks surprisingly at home on many Traditional patterns.

As Frank mentioned, Buck is a fine optionand moderate price, the yellow delrin models or sawn delrin (very grippy) I prefer to the wood handled stuff, but they are a good choice too.

Thanks, W
