My question is pretty simple, just how brittle are ceramic knives?

I've heard they can break by simply being banged against something hard... that seems a bit extreme?
I can understand them not being used to pry something open or like that, but simple accident contact can break them; that can't be true can it? If so seems like a bad idea to spend 100+ dollars on a knife that can break off just by a bit of carelessness...

So anyway just how careful do you have to be?
I don't need hard numbers (all though if you happen to have them handy.... ;)
Just wondering your basic impressions on them, can they cut an aluminum can, could you break one in half with your bare hands, could they be used on hard plastic, ect?
Thanks in advance.

P.S. this is the one I was looking at if it matters (but not from that site, I can get it on sale for about half off) though haven't made any decisions.
