New guy and to introduce myself thought I would show my EDC I love the Case 18 pattern, even though its not unique or cool. Mine was gone (a CV Delrin I accidently hid from myself and am sure will someday turn up) so I went looking for a new one. Being as ADHD as they come, I got distracted by a 47 stockman with slanted bolsters so of course I ordered it. Few days later I received it, opened it and went …. Oh H#$%^. A lousy dye job, but I ordered from a reputable dealer so I knew I could return it. Then I hear “Oooh I like it like that its unique. Gives it character” from my oldest daughter who was checking to see what Dad was up to. I explain no that’s not character that’s a birth defect, character is earned. 2nd daughter comes over and says cool it looks like they splashed strawberries on it. About 30 seconds later they had it named Strawberries. Now how can you return that? Eventually will they forget about it and I may do the Rit dye thing, but for now it makes me smile to think about their whimsy every time I take it out of my pocket. Hope you didn’t mind the long post

Sorry for Cell phone pic. only phone I had handy.

You definitely need an off white perhaps cream coloured one now . that would the perfect accompaniment to strawberries.
cheers and welcome.

It is a blessing to have children that show interest in our knives. "Strawberry" is a nice looking knife. ;)

What a great story! Now that's DEFINITELY a keeper. Just be careful what you order in the future ;)

I like it. Gives it some character and makes it yours. And a good story to share with others. Especially those fringe type weirdos who aren't knife people. LOL.

It's a keeper!

Thanks guys for the comments. Meako it may be hopeless for me to go looking for another knife to complement this one. This all happened about a month ago and is my daily carry. Since then still dont have a pattern 18 so went shopping, got interested in a different knife bought it and STILL dont have a 6318 or 3318 like I went looking for. And it sure isn't like they are rare:confused:. May be time to give up. Nah I know me better than that :D

Great story, and glad to have you with us!

Case does seem to struggle with the red dye. I dunno why that is such a tough nut for them to crack since they seemed to have it down pat back in the 70s. I no longer worry about it on SS knives now that I have mastered the art of stovetop RIT dyeing.

The x318 pattern is one of Case's most ubiquitous. You should be able to find one to suit your fancy. Is there a particular handle + steel combo you are looking for?

I personally prefer the 63032 for the blade styles (regular clip + pen versus California clip + spey), but the 6318 carries better due to the rounded bolsters. I think the Pocket Worn Old Red Bone version has a regular clip but still has the spey.

Actually I have looked at many that fit the bill just have not pulled the trigger yet. I think part of it is I know my old 3318 cv is at home somewhere and just dont buy. I got a new job and was told by the folks who placed me I could not carry a knife. A week or so later my boss came walking down the hall flipping a mini trapper in the air and catching it (a habit of his I found out later) and I asked if I could have a knife at work. He looked at me like I was an idiot and told me pretty much every one in the place carried a pocket knife and sure. I remember putting up my knife for safe keeping but dont know where. Why I did not just put it with the others in my accumlation I will never know but as I said I am ADHD and I been doing things like that for a half century now. It will show up.

Sad little lost yeller Delrin stockman, yearning for its pocket. Name it Lemon and maybe the girls will help you look for it. :)

Just decided I had to note you are so right. I had my kids later in life and at a time I could appreciate them more than I would have younger. And they, along with thier Mother are very much the greatest blessings in my life.

Now thats an idea! So far strawberries the only knife I ever had with a name. You got any great ideas on how to get them to clean their room?

If I knew how to get kids to clean their room, I'd tell my wife so she could use that technique on me to get me to clean up my office. :o
