i don't post here often, maybe this is the first time. But today I had made a big mistake.

For years I have carried the same serrated black on black salt 1 that I bought the first time I went to Gulf Shores. It has been my only spyderco, go to modern pocket knife, and been with me to Gulf Shores twice since then. In fact, was gonna be my beach knife next month!

Well, this morning, as I was late to school, I stuffed it into my pocket instead of clipping it. Fast forward to twenty minutes ago, i get out of my car and hear a "clank, skid!!!" And away my beloved spydie slid down into the storm drain!!

I have tried to locate it, but I can't see it and I think it probably fell deeper into the drain. With huge storms coming, no doubt it'll be washed away to who knows where:(:poop:

Sorry to hear that, man. I still mourn the loss of the serrated Police model I bought around 1991 or 1992 and lost about 10 years ago.

Perhaps a flashlight and magnet on a string?

The light and a magnet on a pole works. That way if it fell off angle you can get at it better. Also if you have a cup on a 2nd line you drop the knife into you're not trying to lift it all the way and have it drop 6" from victory.

Or your loose the magnet and the light also. It can be 50/50.

If you can see it or feel it you can likely get it. If a strong magnet won't work try a fish hook.

This is why I have this Craftsman lighted magnet on a stick. Just tried it on a 11.4oz fixed blade.

Storm drain covers come off with a little elbow grease. I used to work on a pipe crew.
Have a friend help block off the area or park your car so no one crashes into you, grab a flashlight and go get your knife! 45 seconds in and out, maybe
some muddy hands/shoes, but it will be worth it.
Best of luck.

If a clown is in the storm drain and says “Oh yes, they float Georgie. They float and when you’re down here with me you’ll float too!”....just leave the Salt in there!
Why? If the clown poses danger, pull the knife on him. He won't go to the authorities, who's gonna take a clown seriously? :D

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you can go back and get it out. I lost my favorite Delica about 5 years ago at my daughter's track meet. Went back to the school at midnight with a flashlight but never found her. Someone had a lucky day. But I never forgot about her. It didn't take me long before I had to buy another. Didn't like the feeling of being naked.

Find a map of your city’s drainage tunnels; determine at which point your knife will get stuck or flow into the ocean. Set up a series of nets at these locations. if it takes a week to find it, it won’t be rusted at all, and it will be time well spent!

Trawling works better than trolling?

Kind of like in It?

At least if you get it back it won't be rusted! I have (had) a cheapo S&W folder that is currently somewhere about 5 miles off Islamorada, FL in about 20 feet of water, I had flown carryon only and bought it at KMart (yes they still have those in the keys) since it was the only semi decent knife they sold, fell out of my bathing suit pocket while I was snorkeling. It probably isn't very rusted either come to think of it, the blade is black painted and the junk steel they use probably is about .3% Carbon anyway!

Unless you had a monsoon type rain since you dropped it, the knife is still probably sitting in the exact place where it landed. Just a few feet under the grate
that can be lifted off with two hands and slid on to the asphalt just enough room for you to get inside. Don't be afraid, this is a manly mission.
Reclaim your manhood.

It just occurred to me that this may need to be said. Obviously, slide the grate back into place after you have retrieved your property.
You don't want a car tire or a kid falling in there. Best of luck.
