Last night before I went to bed I thought up the best ending, the most absolutely awesome redo for the last few chapters of my book. Then I fell asleep, and I woke up and I lost it cannot figure out what I was going to do anymore. I was so close to finally, after four years, finishing this thing! I might cry.

I know the feeling; years ago, I got direction from a doctor to start a journal. I did, and it's become a book of sorts; and I'm really careful about keeping the details straight about my past. Sometimes I'll remember some little detail that I couldn't think of for months or years, then forget about it not even five minutes later.

The solution, at least for me, is a digital recorder, one of the little $30. ones from Radio Shack. I can just say a quick little note into it, or a longer note if needed. That thing has saved me so much grief it's unbelievable: everything from license plates for hit-&-runs I've witnessed to grocery lists, and everything in between. It's really cool for when you're awake at 2am and a random thought or idea comes to mind that you want to save.

thx - cpr

May seem silly, but try going through whatever routine you went through while you were thinking about it. May jog your memory.

Agreed,

I also think you shouldnt try to think so hard, it seems (for me anyways) the harder I try to remember the less I do. Just forget about it and carry on with life, then one day it will suddenly pop in your head!

I usually just write it down in my notebook but last night I had just got home from working out in the cold all night and was all comfortable under my warm fuzzy blanket and didn't want to risk the two seconds of discomfort to jump up and grab my notebook. I thought I'd be able to remember it as cool as it was but all I remember is that I had a cool ending last night that I don't have now. Fuzzy blankets are evil.

I trick for helping you keep a memory, thought, or even a dream, is to say it out loud. Once you verbally describe something, it moves that memory to a different place in your brain that makes it easier to recall than if you just tried to remember without saying it.

I remembered I was coming home from school and it hit me like a friggin cannon, I almost ran some guy off the road when I lost focus on driving for a second. :o
I had to stop and write it down before I forgot again.

I am happy that you remembered. I am glad that you managed to get home safely.
