Norax belt question

I just got my first Norax belts from Tru-Grit. Someone mentioned that they are water proof. But I can't find any official info proving that it is waterproof. Neither Tru-Grit or Norton web site says anything about waterproofing.

BTW All Norax I got(from x100, x65, x30, x22, x5) look very flexible. Do they fold over platen edge nicely? Do you have to first grind a piece of steel against edge to make it fold?

Thanks,
Alex

Don't have any experiance with the Norax belts. From my personal experiance with other belts there all pretty much water proff except the trizacs. That means a wet blade against the belt or spritzing a little water on the belt, not runing them submerged.

Why don't you just try the belts and find out what works for you. Lite oil, WD-40, 3in1, if it looks thin most likly its lite oil.

They are definitely not water proof. I just had a Norton factory rep in my shop last week and we talked about that exact issue. He said he would see if he could find out about a water resistant version but that was going to be a big deal to get done.

I learned from experience: They will tend to 'melt' and then clump up and cause streaks in your finish.
I use norax belts on most every knife and when i dip in water, I wipe the blade with a rag every time.
