good morning,

thanks for all the good information on this site.

Im playing with a small trout and bird knife that can be worn with a fishing vest pretty much a nordic design.

The first blade is a small clip point not much different in size to the nodic knives I may do one in a drop point and see what one I like better.

so im wondering what would be a better edge for general use with a small ulility blade like this.

1) Nordic flat grind
2) hollow grind

this first knife is high carbon but any other I do will be either ats34 or 440c as high Carbon would not go over well with fisherman.

Many thanks and happy grinds "John"

I love making the little hole in the handle, bird and trout knives. Because of the size and the use thy are intended for, I just use a full flat grind.

For everyday use, flat grind. Usually stronger than hollow if used for making fire(cutting wood) and such. If it's only to clean your catch, hollow will do better.

Realy depends on your personal preferance, mine is a flat grind with a slight convex edge, cuts a little better, is a little stronger and it's pretty easy to sharpen if you know how.
