Has any one else seen the Nordic knives special Randall Bowie they are having made exclusively for them? I saw one...liked it so much...I bought it. Let me just say that Randall Knives has really done something special with these beauties. The one I have sports a beautiful curved piece of stag with brass butt plate and double guard. The blade itself is flat ground (unusual for Randall knives...as most I have seen have convex type blades). The attention to fit and finish of this knife has to be seen to be believed...no gaps...spaces...flaws...cracks...splits or uneveness on the whole knife. It is very sharp and comes with a nice tan sheath. I paid..about $375.00 for it and regret not one penny..not one farthing...not one piffle of the money spent on it.

I don't think that Nordic Knives nor Randall show these knives on their sites...and quite frankly, I just don't understand why....they are by far the classiest bowie that Randall has ever pounded out.

Dare I say it...I like it better than my Randall Model 16 Special Purpose Fighting knife. Lightning may strike me for saying that...because before this knife happened my way..the Model 16 was held in the highest regards by myself. Good god...the Model 16 will never forgive me now.

Oh yeah…the Nordic Bowie is definitely one of my favorite “dealer special” Randalls. I got number 43 about a year or so ago and I’ve been extremely pleased with it…the size, the flat grind and the geometry all combine to make this one of the most “user-friendly” of all the Randall Bowies, IMHO (although I love’em all). The one I have is a pretty simple configuration: nickel-silver hilts and a beautiful finger-grooved stag handle. Even though some fancier versions were available when I got it, none of them “spoke” to me the way this knife did. It also compliments the rest of the Randalls in my collection very nicely. I’m still kind of a die-hard loyalist to the traditional Randall # 1, but the Nordic Bowie is also one of my favorites…

Rav,
Thanks for the heads up.I have been thinking about one and you swayed me.
Also, welcome to the forums.Good choice of on-line name.I am also impressed with your ability to integrate the word "piffle" into a sentence concerning Bowie knives

I got mine just after they became available. Has a single-finger black maicart grip. I really am impressed with this knife as a fighter. It's as light and fluid as the No.1 but with a long curved clip for mean back-cuts. My only regret is that Nordic didn't offer O-1 steel as an option. Great knife!

Indeed a sweet knife ! I have #115. It has a forward-curved brass hilt, red & brass spacers, a fat premium stag handle with deep natural grooves. You could fall into one of these grooves and not climb out til tomorrow ! Mine also has the contoured brass buttplate. I was considering buying another with brass & leather to use as a camp knife.

Jim-

You bring up an interesting point about Randall knives. I have never been able to put my finger on but these knives really do "speak" to the potential purchaser. I had occasion to visit their shop in Orlando FL, some years back with the intention of buying a Model-1. They had a display case with several of the knives set up in the same configuration that I wanted. It took me about 1/2 hour of handling them to find the one I wanted. The guy working there said that it is not unusual for customers to find subtle differences in similar knives they make...and take some time to find just the right one. My "then" wife was crabbing at em the whole time.."just pick one and let's go"..she kept chiding. Notice I said, "then" wife...I simply won't be married to a woman who takes such serious things as purchasing knives...so lightly.

david- thanks for the welcome and the compliment about using "piffle" in a knife context...who knows..the thread might come along where I'll be successfully able to use the word "tittle", as well...only time will tell.

Very interesting thread. I don't live far from Nordic Knives and I know they're hosting a custom knife show in their town of Solvang, CA in April (28-30).

Maybe that'd be a good time to revisit Nordic Knives and their Randall collection.

Another interesting Nordic Knives Randall is a take-off on the 9" Model 12 Sportman Bowie. They have done up the grind as a super Model 14. Yup a 9" Model 14! It appears wider than the standard Sportsman. A heavy duty combat blade. They do have pics on their web-site (I think it's listed as the "Combat Bowie"). Take a look an see what you think...
