Hello group,

Considering purchasing a Nordooh. I will ask all my questions on this thread rather than continously starting new threads.

1) Rather than A-2 steel, I was wondering if another may be better ? ATS-34, Starrett alloy 496-01, etc. I am not sure.

2) For the handle perhaps something like the Mad Dog grip, Black glass/epoxy composite. I have forgotten the exact name and number of it.

3) What is the waiting period for a Nordooh these days ?

4) Is there some pictures and description of the Sheath for the Nordooh, I missed it at the Nordooh website ?

That's all my questions for now, thank you.

Thx
:)

My first question was what the hell is a Nordooh? I did a search on Google and found out it was none other than a tanto model knife with a parasite blade by Mr Rob Simonich. From what I can tell Rob makes superb blades and if he is offering it in A2 then you should probably get in that steel. I'm sure he has his reasons. Why don't you email him with all of these questions?

Why don't you get a real user name instead of giving us
a very exaggerated version of your penis?
Quite frankly, it's quite crude, and it makes you look ignorant.

BB,

The Nordooh was designed by Ron Hood of Hoods Woods.

The steel used is A2 and Rob does an excellent job with grinding and heat-treat. I believe the sheath is concealex. The Nordooh, and some of the other larger knives Rob makes, is available with a Talonite blade that fits into the handle between the micarta slab and the steel. It's really a slick system and gives a great deal of functionality to the package.

Good luck finding one though. Rob's got a huge backlog (as I understand it) and he isn't taking new orders at this time (again, my understanding.)

If you get an opportunity, you should contact Ron Hood and get his Woodsmaster Volume 10. In it Rob uses a Nordooh to chop through a red-hot horseshoe.

If you manage to find a Nordooh, don't balk at the price. It may be a little on the expensive side but it'll be worth every penny.

My opinion... ;)

A-2 is a very good steel. Everything in steel is a compromise of qualities. One thing you will like about A-2 is your ability to maintain the edge and its shear strength for hard use.

I have grown to really like Micarta myself. Mad Dog grips carry an impressive reputation but, how many other makers actually use a "rubbery" grip that holds up well with years of hard use? Micarta is a proven product that is very well known so, you are unlikely to be surprised with some nuiance you weren't aware of.

If you are in the military, your odds of getting one are better. These are significantly expensive too. You might eventually turn one up on the secondary market.

Sheath is probably Kydex these days.

Rob has used other steels (in my case ATS-34) and other sheath materials (in my case leather). If you can place a custom order, you have some options to consider but, as I mentioned above, if you're not in the military you probably won't get one anytime soon from the maker directly.

As alternatives, have you considered Trace Rinaldi (www.thrbaldes.com) and Busse Combat (www.bussecombat.com)?

Stay Sharp,
Sid
