What do you guys think about the A+A Bearded axe?
I am reading that its cast and not forged, not sure I am ok with that but I LOVE the design.
Anyone actually forge and axe like this? Or could someone turn an Estwing into something similar ?

I am really in love with the bearded hammer poll in this size range, but I want one thats really going to hold up and not just look good but perform like a monster.
Thanks in advance for any ideas input or makers that I should talk to ..lol

here is a link to the axe for reference

Try google Japanese hand axe if you like that profile.

I like that Jay, Thank you.
I might have to get one of these and re profile it a little to give it a bit of sweep.
The Japanese axes have a very straight edge compared to the Norse style, but its pretty much the same axe excepting that one thing.

Looks like a show piece for renaissance and other re-enacters. The very short eye with the bit pushed way out will put a lot of torque on the handle causing it to come loose quickly like the axe that Jay posted.

Also, the first line from your link tells you this is a 'for show' piece not a real axe, "The Nordic hand axe cannot be separated from the mystique of the Viking Warrior."

If you're looking for mystique then this axe fits the bill. If your looking for a usable axe it does not. That said, it would look really cool over the mantelpiece.

Silverthorn,

Next time if you are around Berkeley area in CA, check out Hidatools.
They have an awesome number of Japanese bamboo hatchets to the San Mai Aogami Ono (axe).
Look out for Yuri-san.
