While a the local army navy store I ran across some new Norlund hatchets. They were cheap at around $16.50 but I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for one. The heads had a odd redish purple color. Possibly a sprayed on finish and the handles were flat sided and ruff. My first thought was they were made in China but they were marked made in USA. I know some people realy like the Norlunds and in fact I have been looking one but these just looked cheap. Has anyone tried one of the new norlunds? Are the worth buying and replacing the handle? Thanks

I looked at the new ones as well, I thought it was made in China. POS in my opinion. I ended up buying an older Norlund head on E-Bay, a nice functional classic, with high carbon steel, and putting a new handle on it.
