So this weekend I was walking through some local antiques shops with the old lady and stumbled across a set of old Norlund/ Mann edge co. frontiersman tomahawks. they're in pretty nice shape, you can tell the one has only seen a bit of use and I think it still has the factory edge on it. The other is a little rougher, couple nicks in the blade and the handle is kinda ugly, I'm pretty sure someone was using it for throwing. I've always wanted one but I'm not too big on wall hangers... So my question is what do you guys think they're worth? The shop owner won't split the pair and has a decent (although more than I wanna spend) price on them. I've done some searching and have seen prices ranging from $30-$900 and change... Can anyone tell me what a fair price would be for these guys?

Awhile back I was watching one on Ebay, I don't remember what it went for, but it was more than $100.00. Apparently only 1,000 of these were made (I can't verify that #). I passed on it. Kinda sorry I did as that one is the only Norlund head pattern that I don't have in my collection. If you pick them up, I'd be interested in the ugly one at a decent price.

If I do end up picking them up, which I may not since he wants more than $100 for the pair, I would want to keep the more beat up of the 2 as a fun usable camping hawk. But I probably would put the nicer one up in the classifieds here so that one of you guys could get your hands on it, like I said I'm not big on wall hangers/ display tools.

Joe, I would be very interested in the nicer one for my Norlund collection. If you do pick them up would you please send me a PM.
I'll bet we could work out a nice deal on it.

id say good find and worth the 100$ + for two any day

heck, I'd be willing to buy both of them if you pass. gladly pay you an better-than-appropriate finder's fee and shipping/handling charges.................

So here is the nicer of the two that I just picked up, although I was bending the truth a bit about where they came from to mislead any potential competion (ebay).

Not sure, this is the picture from the auction. Unfortunately I don't have it in hand yet. I'll post detailed pictures when it arrives, clean it up a bit and put in the forum's classifieds (anyone know what section it should be in??). The handle on the second one is split top to bottom, so far gone I'll probably only use it as a pattern to make a new one, the head has some pitting as well... I'll put in in the "future projects box" and mess with it next winter.

Got the second one it looks great. I think it has the factory edges although the middle 1/2" of the blade is blunted (looks like it was probably whacked on a rock) the spike side is dangerously pointy and sharp. The head is in great shape, nice patina but on the end of he handle there is what I think looks like a small squirrel chew mark but it doesn't stand out. Check it out and see what you guys think.

Dang you caught me, I've been counterfeiting Norlunds in my basement.

Hey, me too!

If I were to try and make some illicit money based on the information in this thread, hypothetically, I would claim to have made an incredible bargain, say its too nice for me to use and then "sell" it to as many people as possible. Hypothetically.
